I just received this email that he wanted to get out to "the masses" about the X-Amps. Read on, I think you'll like it. I have an email into him re: the "new price" of the X-Amps and am waiting to hear back on this. Until then, disregard that number:
Good Evening…
I’ve been given a few moments with a computer – so I thought I would pen these thoughts and get them into the hands of a few folks that surely will post them for me.
It’s been a very quiet few days for me – and with the silence has come a lot of thought and “positive motion†with respect to what we are doing at av123 and how we would love to show you our collective hearts, with these products being our “way inâ€â€¦ :)
Good – I probably have your attention now.
I’ve had the moment before all of these health related issues to get a good update from Stephen as he arrived in the factory post Chinese New Year. I’m pleased to report that Doug has been positively gushing with respect to the quality and workmanship he has observed over many items from the new factory. It seems as if Stephen has done a real good job getting the kinks out – and really delivering on his promises he has made to all of us. Bravo Stephen…
Nevertheless, we are THOROUGHLY inspecting each and every new product as they arrive from the new factory. I am here to tell you that folks are really impressed with what they have seen, heard and observed. Good stuff indeed… which leads me to the point of this note. Bear with me a moment.
The new x-amps are really exciting products. Folks have found them to be completely and utterly listenable – remarkable in fact in that they have little “sound†of their own. They are very “neutral†but not in the slightest bit “vanillaâ€â€¦ They are powerful – yet subtle… decidedly easy on the ear – but completely “extended†all at the same time… Visceral – yet eerily able to portray all of the nuance you would expect from much more expensive amplifiers… All of this and still yet (only) $299 for the mono-blocks and $329 for the stereo version. So, I think we probably have succeeded at some level with one of the “main goals†I set forth when Doug and I started this project… I asked for “Budget Excellence†and by GOD, I think we have managed that part pretty well.
Now then… each of us felt grave responsibility with respect to this 1st production run being fraught with many “first-run issues†and decidedly not being our best foot forward (yet again)… I’ve spoken with many of you – and I know you really love the sound – but dislike some of the annoyances with this first run. I’ve decided to do something about this so that we can TRULY and COMPLETELY put our Best Foot forward.
I asked Stephen to make sure and fix some of the issues so that these would not crop up again. I asked for much better Flyback Transformers – and he has delivered this in spades. They are quieter and made much better…
I also asked for better (hand wound) output inductors so that the PRECISE high-frequency response I set forth for this product could in fact be realized… He did that as well… the new output inductors cost a ton more – but they are perfect, and yield the precise response I was after… Bravo Stephen and Doug…
I asked for two prong power cords to be included – and voila – you’ll see what will come with these new units… (I hate hum as much as all of you hate hum)…
I asked for beefier packaging – and that was easily fixed – good stuff…
BUT – most importantly… I asked for more power… I was not pleased with the final output of our production Switch Mode (PF Corrected) PSU’s… I am now… Stephen’s team really turned up the heat and now we are getting a ton more output… I have seen almost 50 watts more (measured) per unit… The 1st guys were a little weak in this regard…
So – bottom line… We will give you the option of sending back your originally purchased unit(s) and get them replaced with these new and updated ones at No Cost to you whatsoever. For those interested, please e-mail tech support at [email protected] and use “x-amp replacement†as your subject header.
For those of you that simply wish to keep what you have (I know there are many of you LOVING your x-amps ) but simply wish a credit for the difference on what you’ve paid versus the new $149 price for these units – you as well must e-mail sales at [email protected] and ask for your store credit to be placed on file. We are all too happy to do this for you.
These early units we will take back will be available for sale at a vastly reduced produce for those of you that desire “the soundâ€â€¦ but might be a tad short of the “scratch†necessary… Our pleasure to provide these at a nice discount… For those interested, these returned and refurbished units will be sold at 50% off – or $149 each.
