  • Speakers, water, help!!

    Hey Folks,

We had a pipe bust and flood the first floor of our house. A couple inches of water everywhere. I got home in time to just save the receiver and amp from a slow drowning, but my Onix Rocket 450's and MFW15 took on some water.

I am going to claim the speakers and sub on insurance and I have to list a replacement cost.

My question is, since they don't make these anymore, what would the replacement cost be? I don't remember what retail was on this stuff anymore.

Has anyone faced a similar issue? Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Dave

The MFW was listed at $799 I believe, but MLS regularly sold them for $699 and he gave quite a few away for really cheap as compensation for the late orders.

It looks like the RS450s were around $899 list, but sold cheaper if part of a system. I think that's a price per pair, btw.

This site says the 450s pair is $499, but that may be from the Onix days and may not be signatures:

Here's a site showing MSRP pricing for the MFW:

I think it was $599 for black, $699 for Rosewood or other veneer.

I am guessing the cabinet on them might be saved if you got them out of the water quick enough. if they took in a bunch of water it might be a craps shoot if they dont bubble and lift the finish as they are MDF under the finish.

Also, don't forget the infamous "Everything MUST go!" fire sale where everything was auctioned off for penny's on the dollar!

Where you could buy like a pallet of MFW's for a couple of bucks.

I remember when that happened, and how I wished I still live in Colorado, so that I could just buy tons of MFW's to go with my other 6 MFW's. But then the more I thought about it, the more silly it all sounded. :biglaugh:

I dunno, it might be kinda cool to see a wall of like 20 MFW's all stacked up I guess.

Good job digging up all those links.

Wish I was into subs back then, but, maybe you're dreaming of something like this - "wall-of-bass"? I'm with you, dude!

I dunno, I'm still annoyed about the amp problems and the hum the MFW produces. For that kind of money, you'd think they would have ironed out the design problems. But, now that the curtains have been pulled back, I guess I just have to eat my humble pie.]

And thanks for the compliment: I just hope it helped him out.
