  • Hancock and Moore HT seating

I was driving by a furniture store that was closing/liquidating, and on an impulse buy I picked up a pair of Berkline 45088's for $1K.

I have been so focused on getting my system together (just addes Klipsch rf-82's to my rear stage...along w/ 52's, my front stage is RF-7's, RC 64 and 82's as wides...oh and 6 CHT 18 inch subs:)) that I never thought about seating.

I have 2 very nice Henredon couches and a Hancock and Moore chair but my living room is less that ideal for HT viewing.

So, I am selling one of the couches, moving another to my wifes TV room, and going w/ all single, HT seating. I am keeping the H an M chair, the 2 Berklines, and adding a H and M recliner.

For those not into furniture, Hancock and Moore are widely regarded as the best. They are handcrafted in North Carolina (unfortunately most furniture is now made in China...Berklines, a lower mid grade product are, and even Henredon, which used to be an upper middle grade, are made in China).

So I have been studying furniture intensively and I finally decided on a chair, the H and M 3032 which fits the best. I am going w/ something called a married cover. What that means is cowhide from the US is sent to China where it is tanned and pre-cut. It is then sent to H and M where they hand build the chair (8 way hand tied kiiln dried frames, etc).

I opted for the M cover because if I went w/ a European tannery, the chair would have been $3.5K or more. I got mine for $2K which is the limit of my budget. And the leather is butter soft anyway, H and M are still very careful even w/ their married cover chairs.

So who else has become interested in quality seating, or am I just becoming old and effeminate?

The chair is a dream to sit in.

Nice! I just perused their website and found nearly a dozen things I thought looked fantastic. It's a bit above my pay grade for the moment, but maybe someday.

I can help you get them for the best price. Remember mark up in the furniture industry is ridiculous.

Go to your local high end furniture dealer and try them out and find the one that is most comfortable.

The chair I liked was MSRPed at $4.5K, but I can get it from an Internet source for $1.8K delivered. And that is for a "married cover" a leather that is tanned in China....it is still a really nice, soft, supple leather as H and M's standards are very high.

I told my local dealer that I could get it for $1.8K delivered and they first said they could not price match.

I said OK, and left the store....30 minutes later I got a call and they agreed to price match, although I had to pay tax and shipping (total was $2056).

I paid the extra $256 because I did not want to wait the 6-7 weeks I would have to w/ my internet source. However I may order another chair he can get me for $1500 delivered, the only downside is I would be buying it w/ out sitting in it first.

Remember, these chairs will last 25 years, no prob. In that sense they aren't that expensive.
