Projectors with freakin laser beams!

I've been watching the company Red for some time now. They're building some great camera for 4k and 5k recording, and have a new storage and delivery format called Redray, and now this:

The Red Projector is laser based, 4k resolution, supports passive 3D, and is brighter in 3D than most 2D projectors. This is exactly what I've been waiting for. They will be producing a home and pro version of the projector. Now, I know several of you will say that we don't need 4k, and there is no material out yet, but there is upscaling of course, 3D will likely render each eye at 1080P, and the material will come, whether it's from RedRay or some other format.

Anyhow, thought I'd share my excitement. This is cool stuff...

Well, that's the interesting thing here. While nobody knows for sure yet, there is speculation that it could be as low as 6k for the home version. Red has done some pretty amazing thing to the 4k camera world, introducing high quality cameras at a crazy low price point (25k projectors where their competitors are charging 500k). So it's not out of the realm of possibility that they'd intro something like this at that level. Sony just annouced their new 4k projector at CEDIA for around 25k. Of course, these prices will also come down over the next few years, but if Red comes in an really disrupts the market, that would be excellent for consumers like us.

Latest info says 10K is the entry price. :eek:

But given the changes to their other line up, it'd probably be wise to be skeptical-hopeful.
