  • Need a pair of speakers.....

    Hey guys....

I'm looking for a pair of speakers....

This is for my tv setup upstairs....they would sandwich a 37" LCD above a fireplace....

I have no plans for a sub here, so the best low extension would be good..

I don't really see any CHT products that would work...

    space: 7x7x34in (WxDxH) max measurements...

Then I can keep my receiver which is a Kenwood KR-A57R..free!
I know it is probably older than Ajax...but hey I got a basement to pay for.
It is pretty retro, I like the look of it.

I think it is 2x55 watts....

Any ideas? I was going to try and stay ID....eD? Emotiva?

What's your max price for speakers, excluding shipping?

7" x 7" x 34" is pretty small. I have a pair of Mordaunt-Short Carnival 6 speakers in my living room - hooked up to a nice, vintage Technics SA-500 receiver (1|2) - that measure 7.1" x 9.6" x 35.8" and I can't imagine getting towers any smaller than that which will still crank out decent bass.

Well, I was thinking of only dropping $400-500 on them, but open to options.

I'd like them to either wall mount of sit on the ledge that is about 7" deep above the fireplace.

These are just for TV/sports/dvd listening.....I just don't want to drill holes, put a sub on the floor, etc at this time...maybe down the road...

There is no sub out on the avr, but it does have A/B outs for wire....and surrounds...

(these wouldn't be on the floor....)

A pair of WAF-3s and a 10.2 would make a nice 2 channel bedroom setup;)

Just thought I would throw that out there lol!

Sorry Husker, I glossed right over that part in bold. :doh! 1:

If you are looking for slim towers, I know I lot of the B&M manufacturers make some really slim towers nowadays, but I believe most would be out of the budget. Definitive Mythos comes to mind. I think Paradigm, Mirage and a few others are making some nice slim towers as well but they are most likely over budget as well.

If you can't find what you are looking for within that budget and decide to go the small sub/two satellites route, The WAF-3 and 10.2 would be a nice option but I know what you are saying about keeping it simple.

Perhaps something used if it has been well kept may be an option?

True, maybe I'll hop over to audiogon....I posted on a few other forums as well...

I'm thinking something with 3-4 drivers in it would work well?

I should put a sub in, but it would take up needed floor space, and the grubby hands issue. :D

These have been suggested...what do you think?

With my 2x55W power, what sensitivity should I shoot for?

These are good for the price, really inexpensive but a clean neutral sound. Slightly larger than your specs but pretty close....

I am running the center speaker from this line-up in my cobbled together budget apartment system.

                  +1 for the Pioneers

Check these out, too. Hard to beat that A2 price/performance.

I am a fan of Boston Acoustics. Have you checked them out? I haven't heard the newer versions, but loved their old stuff. My father-in-law has the CS23B as rears and they are nice sounding.

If you're in the market for a truly affordable floorstanding loudspeaker that puts performance above all else look no further than the CS 226 from Boston Acoustics. While it's outwardly appearance may be basic and a bit classic its performance is second to none considering it's ultra affordable asking price. The CS 226 is a classic looking loudspeaker with classic performance.

A bit pricey, I know, but interesting. This is for sides and center but seller is willing to split.

If you can go a little higher and deeper, consider ELT 525T's. Most everyone knows the story about Mark, but buying used from a private party does not benefit him in any way. Many folks liked the towers and if you can find them they are pretty reasonable.

Yeah....500/speaker is probably too high....maybe down the road if I upgrade the living room area.....

I'd say the Pioneer and elt would be reasonable and look nice.

                          What about these as well?
