  • Should I upgrade my Amp?

I originally was just going to do a modest upgrade to my HT system with the following set up: TV: 82 inch Mits DLP (3d ready), RECEIVER: ONKYO TX-SR608, floorstanding/MAIN SPEAKERS KLIPSCH RF-52 II B R , KLIPSCH RB-51 II R bookshelf/rears, KLIPSCH RC-52 II R center channel, and KLIPSCH RW-12D R 500 watt sub.

Of course I have since been bitten by a desire for more, and my CHT 18.T and WAF1's are on the way. I am also going to most likely get the PRO 10 speakers.

The 608 is an excellent entry level receiver, but it has a reputation for running hot, especially when trying to get max power from it.

I now wish I had gone with the 5008. However, would adding an Emotiva UPA 7 amp be a good addition? They are close out priced at $599.

That's a great amp, and a well invested $600. I think you will be happy with what it does with the PRO-10's.

A UPA-7 would be a great addition to your system...if your AVR had pre-outs. A quick Google of the Onkyo TX-SR608 indicates that it does not. :(

                the 608 has 4 pre-outs.

I could do an XPA-2 for my 2 front stage speakers, yes?

The 608 has two sub outputs and Zone 2 L+R outputs. Depending on how the Zone 2 outputs can be configured, you may be able to set them as main L+R (for bi-amping), in which case you could add a UPA-2, but whether that's worth it...well, I honestly don't know.

                  Sorry! :o

You know, there are still probably a bunch of people out there that would be interested in a used 608....try posting on the classifieds everywhere?

And, do you really need a 5008? Why not a X007 series? If you don't need/want more video upscaling or 3D, go with a 1007. If you want a better video processor look at the 300X/500X, they have the Reon chip. If you have to have 3D..look at the X008s.....

Also, the 1007 has MultXT.....the higher levels have the MultXT32 which some on avsforum swear by...

Anyways, I looked into those forever...

I have the UPA7 with the 1007 and the Onkyo never gets hot at all..the warmest thing in the rack probably is the HTPC which isn't that warm at all.

                          Anyways....good luck! :salute:
