  • Lets start over.....

Alright...lets break this down for Greg here...........:hissyfit:

    I want a receiver.:dizzy:
    It wants to be 9.2.
    It wants to run heights.
I would like it to have SubEq HT ability...with the 2-out LFE.:scratchchin:

I have an amp: Emotiva UPA-7.

I will 'most likely' be running all CHT SHO-10s, or at least a mix of SHO/PRO.

I was aiming for the Onkyo 1007, but want to consider all options.

    Ideas?

    Denon 4311CI

You didn't mention budget, but I'll throw in Denon 4311CI.
(Good price at AVS -- non-public price that is).

Well he did mention the Onkyo 1007 which runs around $850 I believe, but that may not be the ceiling I suppose.

I know Yamaha doesn't get a ton of love on the interwebs lately, but I really like the looks of their new Aventage series of recievers. The A2000 and A3000 can only power 7 channels internally, but can be expanded to 9.2 and 11.2 respectively if you have an external amp. Audioholics gave it a "Gotta Have It" rating in their first look writeup.

        Price Ceiling

        Hey guys,

        Thanks for the quick replies.

My low end price is probably the onkyo 1007-which I can get B stock for $650. Otherwise it seems to be running in the $800s. My ceiling was going to be the Onkyo 3008; B stock for $1200. I liked the additional XT32 in the 3008 and was going to maybe make that jump.

So, for the non public price on that denon (my listing is $2000), do I need to saddle up and be a "real" avsforum member?:applause:

EDIT: Does the Yamaha have something similar to SubEq HT/XT32 or its own proprietary stuff? Just reading through that review, the video processing might be a step up but not sure of the separate sub calibration like the Denon/Onkyo.???

          Denon 4311CI

PM Jason Turk at AVS re: Denon 4311CI price.:eyebrows:
XT32 and SubEQ and other features.
Given how much effort you are putting into everything else, it might be a nice integrating AVR.

          *EDIT*
...and with the 4311CI you can use a "pre-amp" setting for potentially cleaner sound (turning of internal amps) to use with your Emotiva UPA-7!

I don't know a ton about SubEq HT or XT32 and how it compares with anything else, but Yamaha has a proprietary room correction system called YPAO that detects speaker distance, polarity problems, sets crossover levels and adjusts speaker/sub volume performs room correction with a 10 band (at least it used to be - maybe more now I suppose) parametric EQ. I believe it's a bit closer to the Denon system than the Onkyo. The new Aventage recievers say they have "multipoint YPAO with reflection control" whatever that means compared to my old one with just plain YPAO. It did a decent job for my room, although I ended up choosing a different crossover point manually and tweaking the sub level accordingly.

Of course none of that is to say the Denon 4311ci isn't a great receiver. (although it is a bit more expensive, unless that AVSforum hookup is super-sweet) I don't know how it compares feature-for-feature. I just read a bit about the new Yammy high end series when it was released and was impressed with the direction they are going. That's all.

I just find this funny. Doesn anyone really NEED 9.2 surround sound?

I forgot about "9" setting, but the pre-amp setting won't work if you need 2 internal amps.
                  Could buy a UPA-2 though.:poke::no clue:

                    Riddle Me This

                    Guys,

Mike-Checked out and got a quote from Turk at AVS on the Denon 4311....good price vs the listed ($500 off), but what about these options...

                    Pioneer VSX 1120-K
                    http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...ers/VSX-1120-K

I know Craig has had success running the CHT products and subs via this AVR line, and has given them props for calibration (better than Denon and Onkyo) utilizing the MCACC.

QUESTION: Can this AVR run my 5.1 + Heights + Zone 2 (2 in ceiling...used for stereo for football/other sports in bar/bathroom)?

I don't think it can, but is there a way to wire it (with Emotiva UPA-7 for HT soundstage) so that all 9 can play for football, etc?

                    Other options:

                    Denon 4311
                    Onkyo 1007/3008 (THX Ultra2 cert...does it matter?)
                    Pioneer Elite SC27
                    Marantz?

If the Pioneer can run all of my speakers, it may be the best bang for the buck.....
                    :boom::boom::boom:

Edit: I hope this isn't a stupid question.....if I HAVE to have a listed 9 channel AVR to run all of the 9 channels for STEREO.....just hit me on the head and say YES.

Never had one myself, but I've heard nothing but good things about the Pioneer Elite series receivers.
