  • The $179 Dac.....

Can we get remote volume out on this? That would take care of a few birds right there. :greedy:

I have posed that question to Doug - along with a few others. Stay tuned ...

How about popcorn poper, soft icecream dispenser and a tube output stage?

That's a good question, albee. I'd love to have something that would give it double duty as a pre-amp. That would be cool with a pair of X-amps - and make DAC179 an interesting alternative to the X-hub that Mark is working on...

Doug is working on the $179 DAC - I have been concentrating all my efforts on Gizmo, Scamp-10 and WAF-1's.

As soon as Doug forwards more information - including various options - I will post some ideas for everyone to see.

            Usb?

Sorry if I missed it in another post but will this DAC have a USB input?

It will have USB, Toslink and Coax inputs ... and we will check on remote volume control.

Hi all - We will have volume control .. just not sure about remote yet, perhaps as an option.

How about being able to do some DIY changes on the opamps? I've been reading a lot about the Zero DAC at Head-fi forums and a very cool thing about this piece of equipment is the ability to easily change out opamps to customize the sound to your liking. I guess the key word here is "easily", so anyone can do it without risking breakage. That would be a nice thing to keep in mind.

I am not going to commit to a yes or no on this, but it seems the way to go is to put them in 8 pin sockets. It will give the designer a chance to determine which is the best with a minimum amount of work as well.
                      Regular guy.
Tubey or not tubey, that is the question :smoke1:

That's what I was thinking....something to think about anyway. I'm most likely going to wait for this one to come out before making any decisions. From the little bit I've read about it here, it looks like a super great buy.

Now if there were plans to put a headphone amp in it, I'd put my money down right now.:biglaugh:

So will the inputs all be selectable like a preamp or is there it auto switching using hierarchy?

I have an MSB DAC that allows a few digital inputs and one analog. Each input is an assgined a rank. It auto switches to the input with signal with highest rank. It is an awesome way to have 3 inputs to, say, a t-amp (soon to be Giz), but the DAC is yooooge by comparison. So hoping the TCA DAC will allow switching between a few sources. FWIW, my sources are airport express (90% of time) and ipod. Thanks

Sorry - 1 more Q - Will the DAC and Giz be designed to be stackable?

Doug has been given pretty much a "free hand" in regards to the DAC. We should have a prototype in the next 2-3 weeks (if the info from Stephen is accurate), and more answers will be available then.

I have been focusing daily emails to Mark Seaton, Stephen, etal, on WAF-1, Scamp-10 and Gizmo, with Panache just behind those 3.

                            Stay tuned ... :huge:
