At their price, the combo deal is a steal IMO, and sound quality will rival or better the computer speakers (caveat: haven't heard the Focal; but have heard a bunch of others). If you have the desk space, I say go for it.

Keep the Gizmo on max volume, use the laptop volume control. And you can also hook up a sub under the desk if you want. For the same ~$500, you'd have a great PC setup with better bass.

Actually, the WAF-1s are designed to be used for home theater, up to and including a 7.2 system, so it will do much better than "rival or better" computer speakers. :angel:

You would do well to avoid having any of the volume controls in the system set to max. Going to max is the quickest trip to noticeable distortion. Set the Gizmo around 45 to begin with and adjust from there.

I work at my laptop PC connected to a dock & monitor sitting on a desk in the middle of my small home office. I would like to listen to music on my PC while I work at the PC.

Setup suggestions?

I have been using a Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 setup. I have been recommended a Focal 2.1 setup (around $500).

The Gizmo/WAF-1 combo seems like an option feed by my laptop as source. any comments on it v. powered 2.1 setups?

I would put the speakers on the back of my desk and they would have a good 6' of space behind them to the wall but they would have a 22" flat panel monitor between them...and probably more forward.

The Klipsch work fine but my son is taking them.
