For my birthday, Jeanine bought me a set of Sennheiser HD595s to go with the Nuforce headphone amp she got me for Valentine's day! I have never had such excellent, comfortable headphones! They are really smooth and detailed. Not boomy or overly bright...just everything in its place musically. I don't even notice I have them on they are so comfortable to wear around the ears! When playing Apple Lossless tunes on my iPod through the Nuforce headphone amp, they really show off the detail of each track. Perhaps Jeanine just wanted me to stop making so much noise!!!

tako_tsubo, that must be an outstanding set up! As good as the HD595s are, I can't imagine!!! I have tried taking them out of the headphone amp that is part of the Beresford and it is outstanding! The HD595 are 50 ohm headphones, so you can drive them with an iPod without the use of the amp pretty well.
I think they sound a bit more full bodied around the mid- to lower mid-range and bass with a headphone amp but I would not characterize it as a have to. Some of the other headphones in the HD series (most?) are much higher ohm rated and, as such, require an amp to drive.
These are pretty much ideal for someone who has an iPod and would like a higher end set of cans without spending a fortune or having to buy an amp at first.Tweak City Audio WAF-1, Paradigm PS1000, Jolida FX-10 tube amp, Samsung Blu-ray, Beresford TC-7520 DAC, Apple Airport Express (living room)
