  • Speaker Suggestions!

I currently am using AV123 X-statics for 2 channel music and a Rocket 850 based system for HT. In an ideal world I would like to replace these two sets of speakers with one set that excels at both HT and music.

Budget is $2500, room size is 15 X 12, sitting 8 feet from the speakers. Thanks for any suggestions

The X-statiks actually do great for both with a little more emphasis (at least in my opinion) toward HT. I'm currently using a pair of Strata Mini's for both duties and it works great.

I know Salk just released some new Song Bird towers for $1200~ coupled with some surrounds @ $800 and a center at $500 should do it. Nice entry level from Salk.

Since you are here, have you considered trying out the WAF's? Or possibly waiting a bit more and see what the monitors can do? You may be looking for floorstanders judging by your current speakers, but I thought I would throw TCA a plug since they are paying the bills. "thumbsup:

This coming from somebody who doesn't own any TCA products...

I am assuming that you like the OB sound of the x-statics and that you have the required room to pull them out from the wall?
If so, these are an amazing steal.
Emac has a pair of these and he has commented very favorable on them.

I have heard the demo Neo 2x and the Neo tweeter is really something special. I would sign up to give those a listen before making a purchasing decision. I will be building a Neo 3 for center channel duty and will eventually do my l/r speakers.

What don't you like about your current speakers? What do you feel is missing? It's hard to recommend anything without a little more background.

Or it can be very easy. Scrap it all for a Linn system.

              1) I really think the highs are rather weak on the x-statics for 2 channel

              2) I would prefer to save some space by consolidation to one set of speakers for both music and HT

              3) I would like to move away from AV123 products (Don't want to get into a big discussion on av 123, it's just the way I feel)

I've had ref 1's and I think the ref 3 might be a good choice. Don't come up for sale very often on the used market.

I have one pair in Rosewood which I used to voice my LCR.

They have about less than 10 hours.

If you're interested, let me know.

What would the price be shipped to 98373? Thanks

I can say from experience that the highs can be improved significantly by upgrading the crossover parts. Particularly in the tweeter circuit. The stock caps hold back the true potential of those encore tweeters.

But all of this is moot if you want a different speaker brand.

                        Good luck!

I have a piano black ref 100 that I will be replacing if you need a center to go with that, or you can wait for Hugh's new model.
