  • What do you guys recommend for wireless routers?

I just got mediacom cable internet from Qwest DSL, what a difference in speed. Sure wish I could use my 2wire router modem I bought from Qwest for this, but I have done some searching and it seems like you can't.

I would like to only spend around $50.

What reliable wireless router should I get for laptop, ps3, xbox 360?

I have this Buffalo WHR-G300N router for over 3 years now. It's a solid performer and rarely ever need to reboot.

        The linksys WRT54G is bulletproof.

There is a newer version, the WRT54G2. Oddly, it's less expensive than the old version. Go figure.

We just had a recent discussion about wireless routers over on av123...

            linky linky..

in short, check out http://smallnetbuilder.com - they test and rate them.. and provide charts! :) (reminds me of "...now with electrolytes!" hahhaa)

How do you like that apple airport? It's pricey so I will rule that out.

What do you guys think of the NETGEAR XAVB101 Powerline AV Ethernet Adapter Kit?

Airport Extreme Dual Band is a good router but overpriced..

The 3rd gen netgear powerline adapters rock. Far better than wireless if you want to RELIABLY stream Audio and Video to your HT, etc....

steer clear of the belkin gigabit Powerline. POS.

The latest linksys/cisco router is not nearly as good my airport. Own one of those too...

Yeah, the Apple stuff is pricey.

The Time Capsule was just packaged too nice to turn down. Very convenient for Time Machine backups. I've only had it for a couple weeks now, but so far it's great. Not one hiccup.

With the older version you can replace the firmware with open source and add additional functionality. At one point I used mine as a repeater, now have the stock firmware back in and just using as a standard wireless router. Don't know anything about the new version.

Jason, what the hell did you do to them? These are really well regarded. I have had mine for at least five years.

lol.....I have no idea. I've always heard good things about Linksys as well. And all of them worked fine for a while, but eventually each of them started exhibiting weird issues. Signal strength fluctuations (drastic) and another problem where we could connect to the router, but no communication with the cable modems. We put the airport extreme in at the office about 6 months ago, and bam.....no problems since. Ever.

I also had bad luck with Linksys WRT54G. Mine went dead after a year or so and my neighbor experienced the same thing.

Well, that's pretty cool. I wasn't aware of the differences. Thanks, Don.

Yeah, I used the older version of the WRT54G for years, and am now using the WRT110N. Haven't had a single problem with either of them. Oh, every couple of months I find it efficacious to reboot both my router and cable modem, but other than that, all's well.

The router I got free from my mother-in-law happens to be a Linksys wrt54g ver.2.

I've tried to set up my ps3 with no luck, how do I set this up for ps3 & xbox 360? Can somebody walk me through to get this connected?

                              Thanks
