Received mine about two weeks ago. I still have a BD35 in the family room and BD30 in the bedroom and had an original PS3. The Oppo wipes the floor with all of them IMHO. Load times are astonishing. No more waiting around for 30+ seconds for the tray to open or the movie to start. Excellent OSD and setup menus. BD performance is on par with the rest of the players as it should be but DVD upconversion is right up there with the XA2.

The one thing that bugged me about my Pannys is that they feel cheaply made and plastic. Excellent performers though for the money. The Oppo is solid like a tank.

I got an early purchase option and asked how much of a price discount the $499 was because there were some no votes that I was concerned about and they told that $499 was going to be the price.

I plan on picking one up towards the end of this year.

I passed for now, but I may pick one up later. Would like to see a few glitches ironed out, but it looks like its going to be a solid option, especially if you want SACD/DVD-A.

            Got in on EAP2.

            Very, very happy.

Blows away the Sammy Duo 5000 on BR, ditto the Denon 2900 on audio (DVD-A/SACD/2 ch analog)

I have one, too! It is hands down the best blu-ray player I've experienced to date.

Not to mention a very good CD, SACD, DVD-A transport. I would like to see some modifications done to tweak the internals to make them even better, but all in all, it is very good as a stock unit.

My Oppo BDP-83 is still in its box in my living room. I'm waiting to hook it up until I've received my new Samsung PN63B550 plasma which I will be ordering from amazon.com on Sunday (the first day of my cc's new billing cycle :)). How can I bear the wait, you ask? Because I'm flying to Denver tomorrow and won't be back home until next week. Hopefully, the TV will arrive in time for me to set up my new and improved "home theater" next weekend.:jiggy:
Contrary to popular belief, "female audiophile" is not an oxymoron.

                      I've owned a BDP-83 for several weeks now. I also have a Panny BD35 & had a Toshiba X-A1 HD-DVD.

So far, I'm quite impressed w/ the BDP-83. SD DVD upconversion is exceptional. Blu-ray is great no matter what unit you buy. Some problems w/ DVD 24p sent to my Pio 8g plasma (no problems w/ BD35), so set it to "off".

Audio-wise I'm still putting it through the paces. 2 channel DAC's are quite good, but my av123 ELT525 towers do not generate enough bass; so I am using 5.1 analog multi-channel (to take advantage of my Rythmik F12G sub). While good, not as impressive soundstage as 2ch. Both DAC's are Cirrus. Currently prefer HDMI w/ Denon avr-1909 Audyssey multi-eq doing the dirty work since my room has acoustical challenges.

Overall unit is well built. Tray opening/ closing is a bit clunky & seems cheap.

I got my invite yesterday and am going to purchase one as well--I've been patiently waiting for this purchase. With all the positive reviews, it became an easy decision.

                        Woo!

Any sound reports on the analog outs? I haven't jumped into blu-ray because I didn't want the cost of replacing my pre/pro. The analog outs solve that.
