  • Receiver suggestions....

OK, in the process of moving to PA, I got rid of my receiver in hopes of upgrading. I have apple tv, directv, and x-box 360 connected to a panny 50 1080P plasma. I was looking at a marantz sr6003 but they sold out at acccessories4less. So now I am thinking about a Marantz sr8001, but it does not have HDMI 1.3 only 1.2. Should I be concerned about this? Looking to spend 700 or less on new, refurb, used, etc...must have HDMI switching of at least 3/1. Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

    Thanks,

Based off of the components you mentioned 1.3 isn't going to be necessary as long as any BD player has a built in decoder you should be fine. The 8000 series should have a better power supply and beefier amps, so if it is just the HDMI version that is holding you back I would vote for the SR8001. You can also look at a used or refurb Denon AVR-4306 (I have been using one since its release) in that price range, it is a very solid unit, 3 HDMI (1.1) inputs, great amps, Audyssey, and I have had zero hiccups with HDMI switching, etc.

Onkyo 805 has a sack of balls worth looking into, and a great bang for the buck IMO. The marantz seems like a nice receiver as well... your on a good path it seems. Take your time.

The SR6003 by Marantz seems like a heck of a receiver. I can see why it sold out. It's all channels driven power was tested by Sound And Vision magazine, and is impressive. Rated at 100watts x 7, into 8 ohms it output 155 into 1 channel, 130 into 2 channels, 111 into 5 channels and 96 into all 7. Wow! And it looks nice to boot.

Right now I am in Perkasie but will probably end up near Quakertown in Pennsburg. At least that is the way it is looking right now.

            Thanks,

Thanks for the welcome. I work in Norristown so I head south pretty much everyday! I have not made it to your neck of the woods just yet, but we try to get out every weekend exploring.

I live in Oxford, down by the MD border, and not far from DE. either.

SE PA. is big on mushroom culture/farming, and when they turn over the compost, you can smell it. When I'm lucky, the Amish spread manure on their farms at the same time the local growers are swapping out the mushroom compost.

But come Sept, you'll want to make a day trip to Kennet Square for the Mushroom Festival, all the local chefs turn out their best mushroom dishes for the public to try, and the local wineries duly trot out samples of their wares, there's some good wine in Chadd's Ford.

Way back when, a mushroom festival had a completely different meaning.

I got the Marantz sr-6003. I think when I put it in my cart the other day somehow they took the stock off line. Because this is twice that they have showed "last one". This time I bought it...743.98 with 3 year extended warranty. A very good price I believe. Thanks for all of yalls help. Too bad I cannot use it until 5-15. Man that sux.

Well, after selling my Onkyo TX-SR703 receiver and my old Pioneer
A563(?) SACD/DVD-A/DVD/CD player to a coworker, plus having money from selling a pair of Axiom QS8's, AND some birthday money as well, I could not resist all the excellent reviews and testimony. I pulled the trigger on the SR6003 as well.

Now, I just need to find a spot to hook it up once I get it!:fryingpan:
