  • Most Bang for the Buck

Which product in your home theater system gives you the most bang for the buck? I am not necessarily interested in a piece of high-end equipment with an equally-high purchase price. Rather, I am asking you to identify the product that has provided you with the best value proposition--high quality, relative to reasonable cost, of the product.

1080p Projector - it's the difference between watching a "MOVIE" and watching a movie on a TV (Plus the projector was cheaper than a TV). Next will be room treatments, and the actual audio gear a distant third.

Room treatments from most anyone, though both GIK and RealTraps are both stellar in terms of quality and value. DIY, properly designed, can be even better in terms of value for custom builds.

Honestly, I'm gonna say my little Satin Black X-LS Encores. They are truly steller speakers for what used to be a rediculously good price ($300). I use them every day in my bedroom and they constantly floor me with their detail and resolution for the price.

For me it's the sub but honestly, it will vary depending on what you currently have.

Generally, I itemized most of my equipment in another thread as follows:

I would pair the processor with my Sherbourn 7/2100 amp and Rocket 850s, 250s and a Bigfoot, as well as a JL Fathom 113 sub (and a non-working Rocket UFW-12 sub if I ever receive the repair). I also have a P-1 and P-3 with SOCS. I use a Denon 2910 for CDs and a PS3 for DVDs and Bluerays.
My home theater is in my family room so WAF restricts my ability to do room treatments.

For me I think it's a tie between the Behringer Feedback Destroyer ($99) and the HSU VTF3-MK2 I got used for $350. Both have given me great performance beyond what the price would suggest.

K, you asked what it was for me, it was the sub. With the stuff you have, IMHO, you are going to get incremental (and hugely subjective) improvements rather then huge bang.

The second thing for me was going from a 45" rear projection to a 96" 480P front projector. I just installed a 720P projector and while it's a nice improvement, it's incremental and behind the move from "small" to "large" screen size.

My vote is your center channel. Assuming HT, so much of your information comes from this one place that it's worth spending extra money here...

I'd have to say the basic dolby digital receiver & DVD player. The change from VCRs was a-maze-ing!.

I also admire the real sub and eq thought too - both of those were eye openers in their time.

                      enjoy!
                      Sent to my room. :smoke1:

It's a toss up between the PS3 (it does a lot of cool stuff :applause:) and the Ultra-13. For jaw dropping bang for the buck, probably the PB13.

                            Me too....
I guess my XLS stand out the most...as I am in love with them (still want/need to Ninja them though) B Stock, MNS Snowmen L/C/R*** for $333 shipped...
Next I guess would be my HK AVR 240 - refurb from Harmon Store $185 shipped...
And seeing as how my Sony sub is 8+ yrs old and there was a huge improvement when I polyfilled it about a year ago, $85 - it does a nice job... :huge:

I'm anxious about getting 2 channel going...
almost wanna find some ELTs and Ninja them, but holding out to see what I think of WAFs....

***Edit: Need to add, that having 3 identical across the front is a very noticeable "upgrade" too...
