  • DAC MAN and Gizmo V1.1 Have Arrived !!

I just opened the boxes, and they are gorgeous. Pics will be taken tomorrow, and posted tomorrow night. They look great.

Both units have spent the last few days being thoroughly tested by Doug Goldberg, and passed with flying colors. Doug is thrilled at what both can do.

The combo will replace the Denon 2900 universal player, which was heavily modded by Underwood Wally, and a Mcintosh MS-6900 amp in my high end theater.

Starting tomorrow, this $400 worth of DAC and electronics will be driving the $2000 Dana 930's and a $3000 Def Tech Trinity.

And none other than Nuance of "Seeking the perfect speaker" fame from AVS forum will be here on Saturday.

Here are the specs on Dac-Man:

    DacMan is a 24bit / 192 KHz D/A converter.

Features USB input, optical input, and coax input.

The inputs are fed to a DSP which upsamples the audio input to 24 bit / 192 KHz digital data.

The output of the upsampler is fed to a high performance D/A converter and then to a fully DC coupled high performance audio stage.

    Frequency Response = 10Hz to 100KHz +/- .5dB
THD = .<005% across entire frequency range
Output with 0dB Full scale input = 3V RMS
Volume Control, 50 dB dynamic range with .5 dB steps

    Price is $279 delivered.

    Fantastic news!!!!!

"Volume Control" - so it can connected directly to an amp... Does it have a remote?

It can be conected directly to an amp - it will make a terrific digital preamp.

No remote, though. Look for that in a future product. Doug is working up a terrific amplifier for us.

Sounds interesting. May need to give the DAC-MAN a whirl.
        So say we all.

Great news! I need to get to work on this room so I can really hear the difference between SB Duet directly into the amp vs. introducing the DAC MAN into the mix. :stirthepot:

Cool. How far out are we? About three months or so?

                      No answer is cool too.

They are close ... After I sign off, they go into production. It's then just a matter of how long it takes to build and ship. Doug has already approved, so mine testing will take maybe a week.

I just got my moded Gizmo into day. The pics of the rosewood top make it look like cheap plasic but it is an exact match for the ELT monitors. Actually very nice.

BTW, what kind of source do you need to go with that DAC? It's way beyond red book specs.

looks great, and I'm sure it sounds great, but....

is there any way to build a flat top for stacking with a Gizmo?

It stacks perfectly fine. They have big feet. :sly:
