  • Can I still preorder?

Morning all, going to try my first set of DIY speaker cables. Have a pair of 850s coming and my current cables are quad end.

With that being said, which ends make a better connection, bananas or spades? My set up is a dedicated HT and once in place, the 850s won't be moving for awhile, so access to plug and unplug the connections isn't a factor. Is there a difference or just personal preference? Thanks

Either will work well if the electrical connection is solid.

Some banannas are loose fitting with certain types of binding posts. If you decide to use them, the locking style make a good electrical connection.

      +1 on

I prefer spades, but use locking if you go bananas

Until you get poked by one of those damn strayed wires or have a hard time getting it to fit into those needle-size binding post holes :( I use bananas for all jobs involving tight spaces. I like spades, but having a dual music/HT setup makes changing them out a chore sometime :)

Thanks to all. Found some nice spades over at speakerrepair.com, here's a link http://www.speakerrepair.com/Merchan...ory_Code=spade. Should be here about the same time as my 850s.

I'm using bare wire, but my posts are easy to put the wire in, and I have an excellent connection...

Not sure about the ones they have today, but the ones I got years ago fit quite loosely on several speakers and receivers I've tried them on. They do stick out quite a bit. I would consider trying out some of the locking ones.

Very nice looking. I like the short look, as opposed to the longer looks of some of their banana ones.

My GLS bananas got loose pretty quickly too. I bought them maybe 1.5 years ago.

External amps and 12 gauge speaker wire so nothing really special. Long time since I had an AVR, that was a PITA and I probably would go spades or bananas.
