ok... Here are some random thoughts on my listening session so far. I brought down some Monitor Audio S6 speakers as that is what I use for in my theater for a comparison. I heard 3 different sessions so far or so I thought (Craig threw some different stuff at me) All testing was blind so far. First session was good. Second session seemed that the center was better (dialog wise and seemed more efficient) The third session dialog was just as clear but everything seemed louder and less compressed.
The first session was the Monitor Audio's (crossed at 50 hrtz)
The second session was the Monitor Audio's (crossed at 80 hrtz)
The Third session was the M-1's (crossed at 80 hrtz)

The fact that the M-1's sound as good with less vol than the Monitor Audio's and only cost a third or less is mind boggling.

More impressions to come as the Mrs. and I are going to compare some more... fun stuff:D:D

I thought I would share some of my impressions from this weekend. First I want to thank Craig and his wife for their hospitality... They were first class. I am writing this from the hospital as I thought I had chest pains on the way home from Craigs... And no Craig did not poison me like I joked about.

The 15" sub really impressed me in both price, output, and size. Even in Craigs big theater the 15 never sounded small or under powered... Just the opposite. It did not sound exactly the same as dual 18.2's but it was certainly something one could live with... And that was just one.. (please consider that the comparison was between 1 -- 15" sub and actually 4 -- 18" subs) I wish we could have done a a/b test but that was not possible... I could give you more descriptive differences..

As for drinks my wife and I sipped wine along with Craigs wife and Craig had his usual. It was actually a pretty mellow weekend.... I was off my game a little.... More info to come once I have access to a computer... :-) :-)

I am released from the hospital ... finally... and it seems I have a GI issue that presented like a heart attack or such. I am fine. Since, I am home and not supposed to do anything to strenuous witch is laughable since I have to get my second 18.2 and 70 amp in the house.... I will have help and I promised Mrs. D rock I would take it easy for a while...
I wanted to make mention of a couple of things the MQ-600 or MQ-1300 in my case and the new little 12" sub that Craig has...

The little 12" inch sub was set up in a 2 channel music set up. I must say I thought it blended very nicely with a 2 channel set up. I think part of the reason is that the sub is not asked to do to much under 28 hrtz and that makes it more efficient but I can only tell you what I heard. I will leave the technical stuff for Craig to explain. The sound out of the sub was quick, accurate and not overly deep or boomy. It blended so nicely that I was unsure there was a sub in the system except that typically speakers could not put out such convincing bass at that level without the rest of the sonic qualities being in balance (ie the bass you like except the mid and treble are deafening)... I think it would make a great 2 channel sub or your first starter sub/sat system. I am going to post my comments on the sub amp MQ-1300 when I get everything set up in my home theater.. It might take a little while as I am still recovering from what ever you might want to call my episode....

I am still totally wiped out from my stay in the hospital and I worked lightly today. I didn't even unwrap any of my speakers (I must be tired!!)....
So, I don't have any comparisons but as soon as I am up to it I will post here.

I just saw the posts about your being in the hospital. Wow - I knew a weekend hanging with me was stressful, but not THAT stressful. :peeping:

Glad you are ok, and feeling better! :applause:

And thank you and Mrs. D.Rock for making the trip - the next GTG will be bigger, and you will be feeling better! :)

Eric - It's actually the HQ-1300. It's a great amp, and since D.Rock was here, I let him take it for the same $$$$ as the MQ-600. Yes, I lost money on that amp, but D.Rock is cool, and was happy to get it.

We tried it out, and the cost on it is exactly double that of the MQ-600. As the MQ-600 can drive a pair of SS-18.2's to bottoming, there was no need for the HQ-1300, especially since a guy wanting quad 18.2's can get a pair of MQ-600's for the same $$$$ as a single HQ-1300.

We need a flow chart for all this ... :biglaugh:

There are definitely lots of options to consider. Sometimes it leads me to "analysis paralysis".

Sounds like D.Rock got a deal too good to pass up!

Eric, in the simplest terms ...

                          One MQ-600 can driver two SS-18.2's or 4 VS-18.1's

                          One HQ-1300 can drive four SS-18.2's or 8 VS-18.1's

The HQ-1300 is double the money, so there was no reason to put it into the lineup.

For the same $$$$, it's better to have two MQ-600's.

I just saw the posts about your being in the hospitalWow I knew a weekend hanging with me was stressfulbut not THAT stressful.

Glad you are ok, and feeling better
No worries Craig..... Hanging with you was not only fun but shed some light on just how good blind testing can be.... certainly not stressful! I am normally a lot more fun, but like I said while I was at your house I just felt off..... I am still having tests done because they still don't know what it is... I am just glad it was not a heart attack.... :woo::woo: Mrs. D rock and I will be down again when I feel better and you have something or anything going on. I will post more of my thoughts on the weekend as soon as my head is clear enough to do so. I had a lot of fun with you and Mrs. Craigsub and we will attend another function .. Beleive it or not, I do miss the dogs competing for my and Mrs. D rock's attention.:D:D:D

Thanks again for your hospitality and your true love of audio...

Feeling better all of the time..... D rock
