  • Computer help needed

I'm using a new laptop and some sites are not loading as they should.

The sites ask to load Adobe flash player.

The laptop has this installed but doesn't seem to be using it.

do I somehow need to activate it ? If so how?

    Thanks

You bought the lap top? I didn't like using the keyboard on the one I tried. I really HATED the little flat space where you used your finger instead of the tried and trusted mouse.

As for the web sites asking you to update the Adobe Flash.... many web sites that use Flash are written with the latest/greatest professional suite of Adobe web builder software. Your computer may not have the latest updates to the Adobe Flash player installed. It won't harm your computer to go ahead and download them from the site you are trying to visit. But, if you feel more comfortable, just go to Adobe and download all new updates to your Adobe Flash player and you will be good to go. They will install automatically. No need to "activate" anything.

Thanks John . As for the mouse thing I purchased a wireless mouse so that little pad thing is not a issue. It is nise to have the freedom the laptop gives you over a PC.

I will try to add newer software. I hope that works.

+1 for what the master chef/IT tech said. Most of the time it's just easier downloading from the site so you know you are getting the needed update

              What OS/Firewall/Browser?

Sometimes your security settings can stop these from running. For example, I run CA firewall and Firefox (with NoScript) on my Windows Vista and
unless I add the website to the list of safe websites in my firewall and also allow it in NoScript, the flash contents do not show up.

Give us the exact message and we will better be able to help you out. If you are using Vista, there are a few settings that you have to change or else the OS will be screaming at you every time you try to do something it doesn't like.
