  • New furnase question

I'm going to replace a furnace in a home we plan on purchsing and was wondering if a whole house dehumidifier is worth the extra expence. We do currenlty use one at our current home during the summer months but it is a portable unit. The extra expense will add about $1150 to the furnace.

    Thanks

Buy another SS-18.2 instead. With your dry humour, a dehumidifier is not needed. :biglaugh:

Consider a furnace with an ECM motor , two benefits are low cost operation over standard PSC motors and in cooling mode the fan speed is reduced during the first 5-7 minutes of cooling cycle before changing to required speed . That increases the dehumidification capacities of the air conditioner significantly.

I take it that just regular cooling will do a good job removing moisture :)

Craig my 18.2 is going to do a better job in its new home.

A room sealed from the rest of the house. :applause:

Yes, if you run Air Conditioning in the summer a separate dehumidifier isn't necessary.

A whole house humidifer for the winter months is a necessesity, IMO. I have an AprilAire model that only cost ~$150 if I recall correctly.
