  • LED Backlit LCD vs Non-Backlit

My office LCD monitor (which I supplied myself) recently crapped out and it was replaced by the standard office issue LCD monitor. It just plain sucks, and I am going to buy another one myself.

No gaming nor Photoshop stuff going on. Just office stuff. I am planning on holding the expense to less than $200 and will get one that is at least 21.5 inches.

Is a LED backlit monitor better to have than non-backlit?

    Thanks for any help.

Mike, with the LED backlight you should get better contrast due to the dimming and brightening of the LED's. Due to this if you watch movies, etc., you may want to opt for for it. I've personally not used a LED, this is from what I understand from reading. In your price range I have had good bang for the buck for LCD monitors with Hanns G monitors, as well as their other brand Hannspree. You can find these at Newegg, Amazon etc.., not sure about locally at a B&M.

Thanks for the info. At this point I have narrowed it down to Asus or a Hanns, coincidentally. Newegg has the best deals right now.

      Thanks

Be careful with Newegg. I'm not sure if it's been changed, but they used to have a really bad return policy with monitors. You had to have a minimum of 8 dead pixels to return it. That's horrible.
If this is still true, I would not buy from them.

Good info to check out. The policy appears to apply to TV sets, not computer monitors.

          Thanks

It used to apply to both. Enough people probably complained.

I am now thinking about a Dell Ultrasharp IPS panel. I would use it at home and take my Sammy monitor to work.

Just about all of December this Dell was running $299.00 shipped.

This HP should be a great monitor too, but the rebate doesn't make sense. If they are considering the workstation to be the monitor, which it most surely suggests, then this is a hell of a deal for a HP ZR.

I do have my eye on the Dell 2412. Nine percent taxes add a lot. Need to find a better than 15% coupon.

                  Thanks

Just pulled the trigger on a Dell Ultrasharp U2412, e-IPS panel. Not as good as an S-IPS, but also not nearly as costly. Dell put it on sale for $299 today.

Let us know what you think. I just re-capped a 22" Sammy my buddy at work was going to throw away. It's just a TN panel, but it looks pretty good! I do play games on it, and not anything that really requires things to be perfect, so no biggy. I put my FD Trintron in the spare room, something the wife isn't particularly fond of actually, but I can't bring myself to get rid of a perfectly fine CRT. Time will tell!
