  • I could use a little help.... My DVDR took a dump and died today

Well, crapola.... my DVDR decided to give up the ghost a few minutes ago. Tried all the usual stuff including unplugging it, waiting for a half hour, plugging it back in and then turning it back on.... same thing, it won't boot up. The real buzzkill is I have a rented DVD in the thing. :hissyfit:

Anyway, I called BB and of course, I'm about a month out of warranty, they want $34.95 just to ship it off with a minimum bench charge of $60-$70 before parts.

So anyway, I'm gonna check the couch cushions, penny jar and the floor of the car for funds to replace the thing tomorrow. In the mean time.... can someone record a show for me tonight? We have a thing over at school here in a bit and won't be home in time to watch.

If anyone can, the Mrs and I would love to be able to see what happens on Prison Break. FOX @ 9:00 PM EDT. You can record it on the HTPC and email it to me (I know how to burn it on DVD) or if you have a DVDR, I would be happy to pay for the disc and postage.

Thanks again if anyone can help out. We would appreciate it.

For a second, I was going to suggest streaming it, but then I remembered who I was talking to...... :toilet:

Send me a pm with your address....

      John,

A DVD burner is pretty inexpensive to replace these days ($20-$30 at Newegg) and relatively simple to do.

I know you don't have mad technical skills :huge: , but You tube would probably yield a little instruction video to show you how to do the change. It's really nothing more then takning off the side of the PC, taking a couple of mounting screws out, unplugging the old drive and reversing the procedure.

As far as the rental DVD being held captive, stick a paper clip in the front of the drive in that really little hole and the drive will open.

Thanks Ray.... If you'll remember, I already replaced the CD/DVD player/burner on my PC. You helped me with that remember? My player that went bad was a stand alone DVDR. I got the disc out, but still no re-boot so I'm off to Wallyworld to find an elcheapo replacement for the time being.

And, now to the You Tube video thing.... I can't do You Tube because I'm on a dial up. I get about 11 seconds of video and five minutes of "buffering." Real disconcerting when trying to "watch" something. :fryingpan:
