Production of Apple’s third-generation iPad is about to get underway according to Susquehanna Financial Group analyst Jeffrey Fidacaro.
According to Fidacaro, Apple’s manufacturing partners have orders to build as many as 1 million iPad 3 tablets in the fourth quarter of this year, in line with an earlier note from the analyst’s colleague at Susquehanna, Christopher Caso.
“Our checks indicate that iPad 3 has now shown up on AAPL’s production forecast for a late-4Q production start,” Caso wrote in a recent research note.
“We believe 0.6 mln-1 mln units are forecasted for 4Q production.”
Last week, Ticonderoga Securities analyst Brian White said that Apple will unveil a new entry-level “iPad mini” in the first quarter of 2012.
The new tablet will not necessarily be an iPad with a smaller form factor,
White’s checks found, but rather a lower price tag likely in the mid to high-$200 range.
The analyst said Apple will then release a “feature rich standard-priced iPad 3″ in the second quarter next year.

So, Mike, is this something that could control my HT setup?

And where do I even start / how-to wire it all up so I can make a door for my rack and be done with it!

I think there are many remote apps for the iPad and iPhone.
The iPad doesn't have RF, which might be a useful feature, but I think some third party devices might add RF to the iPhone or iPad.

Otherwise, not much real info on the iPad 3 yet.

        Here ya go...by Logitech

Wishing you could use your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch as a universal remote control in the living room? On Tuesday Logitech announced the Harmony Link, a $100 device that sits next to your TV, communicates with your iOS device via Wi-Fi, and can control up to eight pieces of hardware -- TVs, DVRs, Blu-ray players, AV receivers, media streamers, and so on -- using a custom app.

I was pretty skeptical about the iPad, but it just plain rocks. My son and I split one, but I gave it to him as his "laptop".
Can't wait for an 11" version that replaces the Macbook Air...

That will be a long wait. Look for Apple to produce something that competes with the competition (e.g., Kindle Fire). Apple won't compete with itself.

Any more news? I started showing Leah some enclosure designs (Warpdrv, etc) or the possibility of 4 18.2, etc. She got a bit ticked (suppose to be done after the GTG), but then I brought up the Ipad3 for her and the HT.

Obviously won't be here by Christmas, will it.

I was reading into this the other day. Not much of a Apple person myself, but our new owners are in a big way, so I thought I might as well get up to speed. The speculation that I read was that the Ipad3 wouldn't be much of an upgrade from 2, sort of like the 4S phone. The article also indicated that Ipad4 would likely launch late in the year due to competition from other companies.

oh well, just did some more searching and found something that pretty much debunks everything the other article indicated. I guess we will see soon enough.

There are those who think a 7" iPad will be launched late this year. I am not one of them. My recollection of Apple upgraded products is that they have just enough new stuff in them to get folks interested in upgrading. Do not expect a revolutionary iPad3.

I am going to get one. I am tired of my wife stealing mine, because our son has stolen her's. He will get a hand- me- down.

Well, that one article I read suggested just getting a 2 for less than grabbing the new 3. Maybe a consideration.

I don't really need one, but it would be nice to have on the couch for quick browsing/emailing. The whole no flash thing really kills it for me though. We stream MLB TV, which of course wouldn't work.
