  • Web site domains - where to buy from?

Where do you buy your web site domain names from?

    List:
    10Dollar.ca
    BrandBucket
    Domain.com
    Godaddy.com
    Nameboy
    NameCheap

    Considerations:
    - Privacy ($10/site at Godaddy) to hide your name, etc.
    - "bulk" purchasing
    - multi-year
    - "promotion" higher on search engines - sometimes bundled with multi-year purchases
    - multiple extensions -- eg, .com, .net, .biz, etc.
    - similar sounding / spelling names
    - What about SSL certificates? -- Comparison of SSL certificates for web servers
    - other?

    Thoughts, advice?

    10Dollar.ca
    - .ca names: $10.45 CAD (+ tax) per year (Includes free CIRA whois privacy)
    - .com .net .org .info .biz names: $13.06 CAD (+ tax) per year (Includes free Whois Privacy)

I have a number of .ca and .com - and a couple of .net and .org - domain names registered with them. (Most of the non-.ca names were purchased from GoDaddy, but I eventually transferred them over to 10Dollar.) I've been with them for ~8 years and I've been very happy with their service.

Got mine at Namecheap. I've been fairly happy with what I got for my money. They have a free dynamic dns client which is nice for self-hosting.

        Thanks.

Not sure I need/want a Canadian domain name (no offense).
Those prices seem close or higher than other sites.
Not sure about all of the services, that may make it worth it (for Canadian based companies).

That's what I heard is a high value site -- and that GoDaddy is overpriced (lot's of advertising to pay off).

            Domain extensions / similar names?

            What about purchasing domains with:

            - multiple extensions -- eg, .com, .net, .biz, etc.
            - similar sounding / spelling names

No worries. I was just replying to the question "Where do you buy your web site domain names from?" :)

I originally moved my non-.ca domain names away from GoDaddy because I was buying .ca names, I wanted to be able to manage all my names under one registrar (and one registrant account) and, at the time, the U.S.-based registrars weren't handling .ca names (but I see that they are now).

I always use godaddy. Cheap and reliable.

                    Not sure.
Just wanted to get some potential domain names for now.
