  • Home Emergency Food

I've had a few friends tell me that I need to have some food at home for when the SHTF. Well, this got me to thinking...just what do I need and how much? I did buy 2 cases (12 meals) of civilian MRE's to try and see what they are like. I have tried 3 different meals, and while they are not gourmet, I can eat them. Wife hasnt tried them but told me I could eat all that **** I can handle

I would like to be a little prepared and these mre's have a shelf life I think of around 25 years.

Along with the food, any of you maybe stockpile a little ammo or other things? I would just like a few ideas of what a guy should have at home to get started on doing. Maybe nothing will ever happen, but I would like something on hand anyway.

Do you live in the Kandahar Valley, Afghanistan?

I'm just hoping SDHTF. My wife won't even let me keep a gun in the house.:(

A 45 cal with lots of ammo, a 12 gauge with lots of ammo, a 30/30 with scope and lots of ammo, if you live in a cold climate have an alternate heat source, I would recommend a propane or gas whole house generator so when they cut the power you wont be in the dark. Learn how to hunt game and skin and gut it. Learn how to make and set hidden booby traps around your property, have some sort of early warning system so when they try to invade your property you can have a jump on them and cut them down.

Living in earthquake and fire country, I'm much more concerned about mother nature than I am with some invading army, but I guess you prepare the same way.

With that said, storing water is just as important as food. You can boil or add bleach to the water. A crack generated radio is a must to keep informed. Batteries, batteries and more batteries.

So you need to ensure a crack stash, too? This complicates matters. :toilet:

It all depends on the length of time during TSHTF . Water lots of it for Cleaning and drinking . Guns and Ammo to protect what you have . You would be surprised how many people would be out of supplys in a matter of a couple days. And store shelfs would be empty . Look at when an an empeding snow storm is comming people just stocking up for a few days clears a store out . It would be a good idea to find a family member or friends to colonize with as well then guys can work shifts for security and women can cook , clean and make meals . (topless)
