  • Resizing and hosting pics, what do you use?

I love taking pictures and am getting a little into it but I notice that whenever I resize the pics so they can be hosted online, the quality just takes a serious dive and they look all grainy and compressed. I usually resize with the option you get when you right click on a picture (factory MS thing) then host on Photobucket.

How can I keep the pictures looking nice and where should I host them if not on Photobucket??

You can use photobucket's upload tools to get more resizing options. Play around with that and see if you can get what you are looking for.

Are you having the hosting site resize for you? Or resizing yourself on the PC first before upload? I'd definitely do the latter.

I've used theirs before and the pics ended up worse than when I do it on my PC. Maybe I was using the wrong one though .... :scratchchin:

Resizing using the MS resize tool. That's what is causing the issues I think, does Picasa or another program like that have a good resize tool?

You have a bunch of different options on what size the photos get resized too.

I use picassa and it also has resize on upload options to the google web albums. I use the web albums because it is so easy in Picassa, but it is easier to get links to the pictures for posting in forums with photobucket. It takes a few extra clicks with the web albums to get the direct link.

Photobucket here. I do not resize when posting to PB and my files are usually quite large.

But when you link from photobucket doesn't it link a full size pic?

When we don't have photos in Photoshop Elements and just want to do some simple resizing or compressing to a smaller file size for emailing we use a free fast simple program call Irfanview. http://www.irfanview.com

Because it's such a fast viewer I have it set up as the default JPEG viewer on my computer.

                  Merry Christmas.

+1 on Irfanview. Good viewer. Simple resize and crop.
