Definitely the "Screwpull Rabbit" is my favorite, although I also have a nice "Screwpull Standard" that sees much action! A nice foil cutter is key, as well. It is surprising what a difference it makes to twist the foil cutter and have a perfect cut just before you use your lever action corkscrew to smoothly pull the cork (without excess force or wine bruising pop).
Cheers!

I use that and my friend uses I think its a waring, but very similar. I would give it my full endorsement. These new electric types are really smooth. Yeah, they are large but talk about hassle free, and cool. The new Rabbit electrics look awesome, but get pretty poor reviews.
I've had this for over 2 years and it works well. the only thing
it doesn't open are the bottles that have a wider or flared top to them.
Remove the foil (comes with a cutter) and place on top of the bottle
while holding the bottle in your other hand. Push the "down" button
and hold the bottle while it screws into the cork and reverses and pulls it
out. When done, you push the "up" button and it unscrews from the cork
and plops it into your hand. Maybe 10 seconds from start to finish.
I think it works great!
Okay.
Cool.
I ordered the Oster Electric Wine-Bottle Opener (Merlot).
I have a wine cooler in the kitchen as well as a bar, so if I don't like it as a main opener I can relegate it to the basement bar.
I think I'll still get another "manual" opener, so keep the comments coming.
I waited tables and tended bar for years. Have had several wine serving classes and have hired and trained other waiters and bartenders.
I find that a simple sommelier knife is very dependable. Mine even doubles as a beer bottle opener, which tends to get more usage than the corkscrew around here nowadays.
When I went for a private wine tasting at Robert Mondavi Winery, they gave each guest one. Since then (~ 20 years), I have gifted over a dozen to friends and relatives and they all love them. I still use the original Mondavi one and have them in my suitcase, computer bag, and car....you just never know when you find a great bottle of wine to try.
