  • A Couple of Hummers

I am trying a different technique this year. I have not had much shooting time for a few months, but the hummers are here for only a couple of weeks, so I have to get outside to shoot the little guys. They are really fun to watch.

Hope you like. All shot in natural light.

Amazing little critters. I have never seen one sit still before. This was our first year without them since we moved in 2001. The shrub that they liked didn't grow back after the winter. They used to buzz in about 6 feet from me, eat for a while, and then zoom away.

          I used my Nikkor 300mm fixed lens for these shots. 300 X 1.7 teleconverter X 1.5 crop factor = 765mm.

Thanks for the kind words, guys.

Is that an f/4 or f/2.8?

BP, can't afford the 2.8. Beside, the f4 is an awesome lens. It is the AFS version.

                Thanks for the kind words.

Our hummers showed up last week, even though their favorite bush is no longer there. The wife bought one of those artificial feeders from Lowe's for them. I didn't think they would go for it, but after circling where their bush used to be a few times, they would occasionally take a sip or two before zooming away.

Amazing flyers. They come in at full speed, stop on a dime, hover for a while, and then jet away.

Cool. It is really fun to watch the little guys fight to try to establish their turf.

                            Hi Mike,
How are you doing? Any project with Photography?

I can't call him baby nor big boy any more so forget about little boy. He would correct me if I refer to him as baby or boy, seriously. He prefer "super hero".
                            Here he is in March:
