  • My Audio Lab

I had to move my workouts to the garage and it has given me the opportunity to clean up my garage and setup a dedicated spot for my audio projects. My daughter scolds me when I use the dining room table. :peekaboo:
So I thought that you guys might enjoy some pics of my audio lab. Most of you probably consider this a mess, but it is pretty good for me and there is something manly about just hanging out in the garage. :D

I built the workbench and shelves from 2x4s and plywood last summer.

Nice. Better than the smallish desk I sometimes use. Have to throw things on the floor before I can even put things down, there's so much stuff on it.
      So say we all.

        Thanks Ed.
That shelf above the workbench is full of audio projects and parts.

          Don,
          Very nice.

Much bigger and cleaner than my workbench for audio projects.
          Better living through Audio Nirvana!

Glad I am not the only one that uses the kitchen for projects which don't involve food. I don't have a garage though but I am single, so I get away with it. I would never see the light of day if I had a nice work area like that.

Nice spot Don! Are those Orbs? How are they? Is that Gr sub awaiting your attention?

Stephen, yeah those are Orbs. I was asked to listen to them and give my opinion. They aren't broken in, but they suck. They don't have good detail so I don't expect them to get better with break in. You have to jumper multiple sets together and the binding post is such a POS that you have to use 16 gage speaker wire to hook them up to your amp anything thicker and you can't get the jumper and speaker wire into the binding post. You could probably wire the jumper and speaker wire together in a banana, but the posts aren't compatible with spades so that would be your only option. The WAF-1 is a WAY better speaker than these things. Any decent bookshelf wood be better than them for music.

The sub is the eminence OB used in the GR V2 and the GR amp designed for OB / sealed subwoofers. I picked up four of the subs and two of the amps for a pair of OB subs. One will be behind me and one off to the left of the my left speaker. We will see how they sound.

Brian, yeah I pulled it out a couple weeks ago to finish it off. I just need to wire the ground circuit, but all those ground wires is kind of tedious and not all that exciting. I am going to finish it Saturday, even if it kills me. :)

Nice spot, Don. I'm going to clean out my garage today so I have a spot to tinker. Your workbench gives me ideas for my own, thanks.

                      anyways, nice setup!

is it heated for those cold winter evenings when you invariably P.O. the wife or kids with your audio stuff and the punt you out into the garage? Or are you in a climate that doesn't require multiple layers of underwear to keep you berries and twig unfrozen? :nervous: :boom:

So just messing around, I figure what the heck I'll post my work places. These are pictures when the woodworking shop was just complete and clean, because most of the time they are in a state of progressive messiness as I always have some projects going. I clean up and the mess starts again:nervous:.

I have a small workshop in the house and a dedicated woodworking shop that I made out of part of the garage. It's 14x17 which is just barely alright.

That is a slightly younger and less handsome version of me:rolleyes:...

Nice shop, Django1! I especially dig the table saw.

Are those steel toed flip flops? :smoke1:
