  • N3, cs10.2 or cs18.1? Vote.

I want to upgrade and on the horizon are GR Research N3s and a sub : if they perform as hoped a cs10.2 or 18.1. But I have to prioritize as I can"t buy both right now. I can't make up my mind what to get first so please help! Here is what I have now, a kind of silly and slightly annoying 2 channel/ 3.1 movie set-up (this involves plugging and un-plugging wires and will be the subject of a future upgrade): X-sub, ninjaed xls encore, ninjaed xcs center, Denon avr 1603, Bill and Dweekie Sure amp, Bil tube pre-amp.

So, sub or speakers first? Which sub, my room is about 1800 cu.feet?

Wow, that IS a tough question. I'm kinda in the same boat. I would have to say, do the mains first. N3.

Are you looking at 3 x N3's or just doing a stereo pair right now? if all three across the front I vote for the N3's, as much as we all love bass it is a small portion of music and movies. If just a stereo pair, then the sub, a CS18.1. because I too love bass. More on point though is I'd avoid a mix and match front 3 as it may cause more headaches then solve.

As for the sub, they all sound like they are going to be great, but I am of the more is better school.

Yeah, I just thought of that as I was typing it up. 2 N3s for now... My avr probably sucks too...

I would say the 18.1. Once you go 18 you can't do with less.

I could live without a sub but not without speakers.
I would say the N3, the Neo tweeter is really something special.
Of course, I just picked up the kits for two pairs of OB subwoofers.

Upgrade the sub first. Absolutely. Movies deserve it and, my gosh, you already have a Ninja'd front for music. If you really want to upgrade the front to Neo status, "drop" the Neo-2X kit into the x-sls enclosures ala Stereodude. Picture below by Stereodude:

I have the x-ls. Can you do that with them? And that begs the question N2xs or N3s?

No, I made that same nomenclature mistake when you talked about them before.

The Neo-2x with sonicap and mills resistors beats out the stock strata mini, which is a really nice speaker.
The Neo 3 gets you better sensitivity (effectively making your amp much more powerful) and lower bass response, so if you want to wait on the sub you won't miss it as much. There isn't much cost difference Neo 2x and 3 kits and it comes down to cabinet costs. If you are going to do the cabinets yourself then there isn't much reason not to do the N3.

If you are more into music upgrade the speakers, if you are more into movies upgrade the sub.

"the New Oxford Dictionary of English, for example, says it is “widely accepted in modern standard English" :raspberry:

This is a bit of a pet peeve of mine as most Quebec French, French which is used by everyone here everyday, is incorrect. Usage rules:rock:...

Is the N3 the same woofer as the x-ls?

It's kind of hard to go against the collective. Resistance is futile. N3s will most likely be first unless the subs get here in a hurry. I'll wait for the sub reviews before making up my mind. I hope to get both before October... Do you think the N3s will be your last speaker purchase?
