    TCA WAF-1 line array?

    Congrats on job.

    That is funny.

Maybe Craig can do a "line-array" of TCA WAF-1's stacked up to the ceiling!

Are those "woot special" klipshes on top? (How do they sound?)

not "woot specials" price i pd for the pair of rf-62s
        under $600/pr brand new.
yes Klipsch F3s on bottom and RF6s on top. after doing a A-B comparison sound and staging go to the F3s but not by much.
they sound great nice small foot print if one does not have a large room, if you want to tame the highs of the horns
hook them up to a tube amp.

This may be a bit speculative on my part but you may want to keep an eye out in their forums as it looks like they could possibly be making a turn for the better. Looks like they have maybe a new partner or supplier not sure but there's an interesting read regarding the LS-4.

Does the LS-4 make sense as a line source (vs LS-6, LS-9)?

According to Danny it would have very limited off-axis response. I don't recall if it was in both directions, but I believe it was. It would basically be a speaker for a dedicated listening position.

I am really scaring myself with the amount of audio trivia that I know.

Correct. The nature of a line source requires that the vertical dispersion of the HF drivers be tightly controlled, so the high frequencies roll off very quickly if you go past the end of the array. The LS4 would work if you keep your ears inside the top and bottom boundaries of the array. However, there are also limits introduced by the woofer array in that there will be lobing if you get too close. (don't remember for sure how far away he said, but it had something to do with the length of the array) It won't be as bad with a shorter array, but if you have to get 8ft back or so and have to stay within the array vertically, you can see how Danny might not feel that a short Line Source speaker isn't the most practical thing in the world. It's also why he was never a big proponent of a LS-Center channel. If you sit outside the array it will have very poor frequency response, and if you have to sit well inside of the mains, then there's not much point in a center. A horizontal OB-5 has been suggested there.

Of course, if you are the right distance away and don't stand up, they will have the general benefits of a line source, which are considerable. I think Danny's main point was always that, if you can't fit something like an LS6, there might be better options than a shorter version of it. His super-v's for example.

So does a Line Source speaker work like a
electrstatic in that the soundfield diminishes
depending on where you are located such as a Magne planer speaker
if yes then why not buy an electrstatic??

Most electrostatics and many planar magnetic drivers are dipole, which introduces a whole new aspect to speaker/listener positioning.

Beaming with large planars is/can be an issue which is what I *think* you are referring to. Happens most prominently with wider panels.

I personally really like Maggies although they can tend to be pretty bright. Their soundstage is phenomenal and if properly set up and powered by a monster amp (they are pretty power hungry suckers) they are fantastic. My father in law had a set (can't remember the model but around the middle of the line) and they were tremendous. Really fun to listen to and play around with.

Agreed. This is probably a ways off, but Maggie 3.6's are probably my next 2 channel speaker. My experiences with the 1.6's are what led me to my current speaker, Eminent Technology.
