  • Let's talk Tequila

    Blackzarg's margarita thread inspired me...

Who are the tequila drinkers at TCA - and by drinker, I mean sipping on it, not slamming shots of it like you're at a frat party - and what are your favorites?

For sipping, I'm a reposado guy, but I like blancos too. Here are my top picks

    Reposado:
    1. Casa Noble (in the blue porcelain bottle... I swear the newer bottling is different, I have a bottle of each and I flat out don't like the new one...maybe it's just a bad bottle.
    2. Don Julio

There are others I've liked, but since I can get Don Julio for $32, I haven't bought any others in awhile. When I want to splurge, I always went for the Casa Noble (but if I can't find more of the old bottlings, probably won't bother anymore).

    Blanco

    1. El Tesoro Platinum
    2. Don Julio
    3. Herradura
    4. Casa Noble Crystal

Not a big tequila guy, but BY FAR my fav is Chamucos

It is pretty hard to find, and I actually haven't had any in years. Try the Resposado Especial

Being down here has really changed my perception of tequila. This one was recommended by a native and it's as smooth as butter.

I get a lot of **** from people because I actually like Patron, so there that is.

I like Chinaco an awful lot as well.

I had one once (I think it was a reposado) at a friends house called DeLeon? It was pricey if I recall, but wonderful. If I was more hardcore about my tequila drinking I'd go out and find some of this.

I'm assuming you mean Patron Silver... I think it's a pretty decent tequila, just a little light on flavor.

The thing is, there are alot of, IMO, better tequilas I can get for equal or less money. That's my gripe with Patron - it's just overpriced. If it were less expensive, I'd probably drink it.

Chinaco is good tequila for sure, and a polar opposite of Patron to me - lots of flavor... It's tough to find around here, and the places that do carry it have it priced way too high.

I've heard good things about Chamucos and Penca Azul, but can't get either of them in my area.

Is there a way to order stuff like this online?

              Edit:
Just found one: Mission Spirits That's a good price on Chamucos. I paid $70 for this bottle back in 2004.

Yeah, you can order online...but it's illegal to have liquor shipped into MD that is purchased from another state (actually many other states are the same way)...basically because then the state gov hasn't been able to tax you on it if you buy elsewhere...

Many of the online retailers won't even ship to certain states because of this.

That's what I was afraid of. I'll bet a pretty penny that OK is similar.....very archaic liquor laws here. I have to go to the grocery store to buy margarita salt as the liquor stores are forbidden to sell ANY non alcoholic items. Not even going to go into the 3.2 thing...:dizzy:

Screw that. Take a trip down to Guadalajara. Awesome old city; beautiful women; hundreds of tequilas; great restauants.

Who else is old enough to remember when we considered Cuervo Gold top shelf tequila?
As it turns out, I was never banned. I was wrong yet again. First Obama, now this. :)

                        Slight thread jack.

I've been looking for other places to visit in Mexico. Guadalajara wasn't too hot? Anything over 77 and me and the spousal unit stay somewhere cool or wet. I guess you really enjoyed it?

We've only been to Playa del Carmen.

Oh and on a side note. When I went through Mexican customs my passport was flagged and I was taken to a little room all by myself. The customs agent said their was someone with my name who is actively being sought for "terrorist activities":o I was feeling pretty small right about then and every movie I have ever seen with a sweaty Mexican cop beating some tied up prisoner flashed through my mind...

Another side note, I threw up all night, anyone try that traveler's diarrhea vaccine?

I think the vaccine is useless against PCSDS -- Post Cavity Search Distress Syndrome....

Nogales and Guadalajara are not comparable, though I don't doubt you can find similar things if you look hard enough. Guadalajara is more like Montreal to me, a very old world European feel to it.

If this is true, then Nogales is definitely NOT like guadalajara :biglaugh:
