  • Good rock recordings...

Can anybody point me to some? I just got my midrange panel back from being R&R'ed and am listening to the rig for the first time in over 2 weeks.

I fired up a couple Metallica discs (And Justice for All, and the Black album) and damn this **** sucks. Just terrible. Way harsh.

I know this is fairly common in this genre, but there's gotta be some decent stuff out there.

    Any rec's??

Oh and the only thing that's different from before is I added some cable risers, and a PS Audio duet conditioner. I suppose the new panel could need some break in, too.

Man..I can't wait to get my new stuff in....

have The Best of 1977-1995, but it's only at 320 kbps. I really need to get around to re-encoding these in lossless....

What about a little heavier stuff like Metallica, Alice n Chains, etc....do any of these guys have any decent recordings? I'm telling ya...I about wanted to run out of the room when I fired up those albums. (and they are in lossless)

Thanks for the rec though, Hal....listening to Dire Straits right now. Fits my mood pretty good:thumbsup:

I've always thought that the Godsmack Awake CD sounded good on my Rockets. I'm sure it's not the greatest quality recording. Tracks 6 and on are my favorite.

I would like to get some good Van Halen recordings, their classic stuff really sucks when listening on a good system.

About a year ago I took a gamble on the remasters of the first five Van Halen albums. I was surprised with the improvement. Still not perfect but much improved IMO.

Right??? What is it with that....

As I sit here and listen some more, there's definitely a harshness that didn't used to be there...gotta be the new panels. I had one go out on me about 6 weeks ago, and then when I had it replaced the new one was much more sensitive than the old one...I had to make a drastic adjustment on the right gain to balance the levels. So I had the other one replaced....fixed the balance problem, but now it seems I have a break-in problem...arghhh.

Panels? I forget what you have, planar magnetics or electrostatics? The break-in on the strata minis is universally recommended as rather lengthy. Let em run and I bet they will settle down.

I just ordered a second pair that I'll run stacked. 2 side by side for each channel. I won't have them in this small room, though. We should be in the new place by the time he gets them built out. Also picked up a pair of Emotiva XPA-1's that will hopefully be in late next week.

Thanks! I don't have any of them in the library. I'll see about picking something up tomorrow (if the roads are cleared up)

This isn't probably as heavy as you are looking for, but I find Robert Plant's Now and Zen quite well recorded...it sure sounded good at Art's!
