  • Jack Daniels

I'm thinking about stocking up for my brother-in-law visiting for the Superbowl.

He is a big Jack Daniels fan.

I was just wondering about the "Green label" vs. "Black label".
I googled this info, but there are some discrepancies:

Ask questions on any topic, get real answers from real people. Have a question? Ask it. Know an answer? Share it.

Is it worth getting it or just sticking with the others:

    - Jack Daniels (black)
    - Gentlemen Jack
    - Jack Daniels Single Barrel

    From the source:
    Link
"Single Barrel is matured in the highest reaches of our barrelhouse where the dramatic changes in temperature cause its color and taste to deepen further. We still hand-select each barrel for its robust taste and notes of toasted oak, vanilla, and caramel."

Gentleman Jack, however, receives an additional "blessing" when it is Charcoal Mellowed again after reaching maturity – making it the only whiskey in the world to be Charcoal Mellowed twice, giving it ultimate smoothness. Gentleman Jack is full-bodied with fruit and spices, and its finish is silky, warm, and pleasant. When you drink Gentleman Jack, you’ll always enjoy rich, rewarding taste.

I enjoy the Gentleman Jack quite freaquently . GJ is easy on the pallot and I usually drink it straight up or "Neat" . The Black lable I usually mix with coke. Three 12 oz. can of Coke for a 750ml bottle of jack makes perfect drinks.

Out of the Jack Daniels line up I enjoy Gentleman Jack the most.
A knock at the door said "Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms" I thought it was a delivery.:biglaugh:

      I agree with Drunkonjackclassic.

I'd get Gentleman Jack over Single Barrel. Not that Singal Barrel isn't good, but for the money, you can't go wrong with GJ.

        Thanks.
I actually have the SB, GJ, and black label at home waiting for my brother-in-law.
I was wondering if the "green label" is inferior and should be skipped or if it is worth getting to have him try it.
He has tried all of the above and some 90 proof (?? Gold Medal ??) JD, but I don't think he has touched the green.

        Thanks.

        Mike

For grilling I also got him this (overpriced) sampler...

I'm surprised you even found Green - I thought they had discontinued it. It either goes through charcoal filtering one less time than the Black or is aged a year less. I knew years ago, but have stayed with Black, so I didn't keep track.

Actually, once I found Gentleman Jack, I gave up Black. GJ is that much better. Just evaporates off the tongue.

I tried and never cared for the green--stuck with the black label when I used to drink 'Jack', but I've since switched to Maker's Mark and a bourbon that's probably not made anymore (I have about 3 bottles of it left yet) that's reaaaally smooth and 103 proof to boot...Old Weller.

(...or at least not worth getting with other alternatives)

It was mainly to just give him something else to taste.
I'll keep the GJ, single barrel, and black label in stock for his visit.
I also have a few bourbons and single malt scotches around for visitiors.

              Thanks.

I posted this over at AV123 after our visit to Lynchburg.

I'm not sure if they make green label any more. Didn't recall seeing yesterday when I stopped to pickup some black label.

It's still my favorite although at the advice of DOJ I started enjoying Makers Mark a few years back with JD started playing with the proof again. I tend to split duty between the two of them.

I saw some green label recently in a store.

Are you saying that "...my favorite..." is the green or black label?

Jack Daniels in general is my favorite but I can't recall ever buying the green label unless it was years ago and I just forgot. I typically keep a good stock of Black label and occasionally some Gentleman Jack.

D@#n... Last time I tasted Jack Daniels, I thought it fit for cleaning medical
                        instruments only.

I understand it's your brother in law's preference and all... But have you considered
some quality straight Bourbons such as Booker's (Jim Beam distillery) or Elijah Craig 12yo?
...'Ya know, just to change his palate up a 'lil bit?
