  • Avatar 3D !!! OMG!!!!!

    OMFG!! WOW! WOW! WOW!

    :applause::applause::applause::applause::applause:

I went to the midnight premier of Avatar last night shown in 3D. The 3D really draws you into the picture - you feel totally immersed. The cinematography is beyond words. Everything you've read about this film setting the new standard for movies is true. It is over whelming it is so good.

Some people trash the plot somewhat but I was totally engaged by it. This is the best 3D and the best Sci-Fi genre movie I've ever seen. EVER. This makes District 9 (coming out on DVD next week) look like an old Star Trek:TOS episode by comparison.

Run, do not walk, to your nearest theater showing it in 3D. Reports on Twitter for the IMAX 3D shows are even better. I have to find an IMAX that's showing it around here for my 2nd viewing.

6 months from now when this is released on Blu-ray, etc, it may not even be capapble of reproducing the theater experience I saw last night. I think I've been spoiled forever.
    Regards,

What are your thoughts on a 6,7 and 13 yr old watching this. Anything to be concerned about? Frightening images that might be made even more frightening by the ultra 3D'ness? No spoilers please. :begging:

Thanks for the review by the way. :jiggy:

It's a 170 mile round trip to the nearest IMAX theater but you know I'll be making that drive.

          Thanks for the post Al!

Am I the only one who's annoyed by movies in 3D? I mean, I'm glad the option is available for those who like it, but I've tried a movie in 3D, and the whole time I didn't find it immersing, I found it annoying - like it was distracting me from what was important. :no clue:

I am, however, glad to hear that Avatar is worth seeing. I love sci-fi, but it's hard to find a movie worth watching.

Sold out here, too. I think there might be some tickets left for Sunday. But I'm just gonna wait until next week. Hopefully I won't have to wait in a long line forever just to get a good seat.

                      Glad to hear it's good!!

That is what I was wondering. Is this some kind of new technology because 3D just gives me a headache?

It's the same 3d with polarized lenses.

As for the 3D tech, it really is immersive, and not gimmicky like most 3d moves do. The 1st scene for me was the perfect intro to how james cameron does 3d: as a dynamic part of the filmmaking process and not some "let's blow something up and conveniently shoot something directly at the audience to make them flinch." I'm talking about the water droplet scene while sully sleeps. As for the plot, it was a refreshing way of working with ideas that have been done before. I did find it a bit predictable... ok, very predictable, but whatever, I was totally digging the immersion. I'd say this is definitely the 1st movie to do 3d justice.

I dunno. I was really impressed with the 3d in the remake of My Bloody Valentine.... That woman was practically in my lap! lol

This 3D is not in-your-face. It feels/looks like your natural vision with true depth perception. It really does draw you in. I found I was totally unaware of the glasses after just a couple minutes. This really does raise the bar for all future filmmakers.

I'll bet he makes a huge chunk of his $300M cost back this weekend. The buzz is all positive.
