My mom was buying a used car off of ebay motors. I told her to make sure and buy a VIN report, the car looked good and she said it was going to be handled through ebay motors. Navy Federal Credit Union was handling the auto loan and working with her to make the payment through ebay, so I didn't really pay that much attention to what was going on. Turns out it was one of those fake ebay representative deals and Navy Federal wired them the money. Car didn't come, I wasn't too worried because she was handling it through ebay and it sounded like everything was covered. Well, she forwarded me a bunch of stuff and she definitely got scammed. Boy do I feel like crap. Don't know how much responsibility, if any, the credit union is going to take but they obviously issued a car loan which now has no collateral. What a mess. :toilet: :crying:

That sucks! I have bought 3 cars and sold one on Ebay and only one gave me a pause of concern. I am so sorry for your mom. Not only is it horrible financially to be scammed, but its the embarrassment factor that really stings. I hope you guys can get this resolved somehow.Comment

Damn Don....that's terrible. I really hope there's something that ebay and/or the credit union can help so she's not stuck with the bill.Never Argue With An idiot. They'll Lower You To Their Level And Then Beat You With Experience!Comment

Thanks guys, I feel really stupid because if it was my grandmother I would have been on top of things, but my mother is a working social worker with a masters degree. Now seeing how she got duped I realize how un internet savvy she is. She was telling me about ebay direct where you aren't bidding on things and are buying directly from the merchant. She was talking about buy it now and in her mind that wasn't buying via ebay. Wow, don't assume your loved ones understand anything about technology.
I found this website for reporting internet crime.
