  • WWII in HD

Has anyone else been watching this on History HD? I have all 10 episodes saved on my DVR and have just started watching the first part. It feels strange to see WWII footage and WWII era footage in color since that's just not how we're used to seeing it.

It reminds me a lot of the color photos of the US from the 30's and 40's that were taken by the United States Farm Security Administration and the Office of War Information link

I have a hard time wrapping my head around color photos from that era as well. Did you see the WWI pics from France? http://www.worldwaronecolorphotos.com/

I am a rabid WWII history fan, and have really enjoyed what I've seen of this series. Looking forward to getting all the episodes on Blu-ray (hopefully).

Me as well. Although they did live their lives in color...

I finished watching the first two parts last night, and while all the footage is haunting, the color footage of the wounded soldiers hit me the hardest... :salute:

Seth or anyone else recording it.... I'd be more than happy to pay for a set of DVD's if anyone would be so inclined to burn them for me. I'd really appreciate it....

I don't have any way to get it off my cable company's DVR, but I expect they'll release it on DVD and probably Blu-ray, so you'll likely be able to get it from Netflix soon.

Ahhh... ok no problem. I thought the DVR was just like your computer.... recording to the hard drive and then opening a file and watching it. Goes to show you that even though I've got this broad band stuff now.... complete with a wireless network set up thingie, I still haven't got a clue with all of this techno-stuff. I mean I still don't have an I-pod, no I-phone (so no apps for me either) and just plain old OTA TV. :fryingpan:

A few years back the History Channel had a WW1 in color series. They taken old war footage and added in the color. It looks a little off and fake of course but it oddly did give a better sense to what that war was like. There was enough color footage of WWII laying around and more than enough movies done to get some idea of the second war.

Of course now the war footage comes from drones receiving their commands from satellites. Very odd since color footage was very rare not too long ago.

                          John,

It's available pre-order on DVD. I remember in an old post you listed a ton of WW2 recommended movies so you should like this one.

It seems slightly ironic to me that WWII in HD is not HD when on DVD. Some joker will probably sue them for false advertising.

I just finished watching all ten episodes, very powerful stuff. It's helped me to understand more of my late father's reasoning for not talking about it. Though in his memoirs we did get a hint of what he did under General Bradley's 1st Army.
