  • reciever polarity check

I got a new pioneer elite vsx-21 last week and set it up over the weekend. When I ran the auto setup, the first thing it does is try to detect all speakers and check their polarity. It said both my bigfoot and 850's had their polarity reversed, but my elt 525s (running as surrounds) were fine. I checked the wiring from receiver to speak on all three and they are correct, so I'm a little confused. And my Onkyo 606 never complained about it.

Could room acoustics cause MCACC to detect a problem that isn't there (my room hates me)? Maybe something miss wired in all three speakers?

      It isn't the receiver.
      It is the speakers.
      No problem.
Some speakers have drivers out of polarity due to (???) crossover issues.
This has been discussed multiple time on the Audyssey thread on AVS.
      Just continue with your setup.
      I hope that helps.

Thanks Mike. I won't worry about it then

I actually did have a set of AV123 speakers (X-MTM Classics) that were out of polarity from each other so a quick battery test might not hurt. That being said, the 850's are known to throw the polarity check warning. If they were mine, I'd run a quick check just for my own sanity.

My RS1000Sig (similar to 850's with added side woofers -- no not subs) get the polarity check, so I think his are okay.

Anyone else care to pipe in?
