  • H/K Ezset

I ran this using the mic that came with my 247. After it was done I checked some of the settings. It had my fronts to large (which I changed to small) but it also had all my speakers set to different crossover points. I always read most people set them to 80hz so the sub does most of the work. I have a MFW for sub and when I calibrated with a spl meter I set it in the negative. After running Ezset it set it a 0 but the bass seems to be lacking. I'm know H/K is not as good as the Denon for auto calibrating, so would I be better off just starting over and calibrating manually.

Usually the non-roomeq is good for given you a starting point if you don't know where to start or don't have an spl meter. Your ears and spl meter is the best judge.

Thanks. It sounded better to me before, so I will get out the meter and dial it in the way I like it.

I did the HK EZset on my AVR-247 yesterday, but stopped halfway through. Was it a "scary" event for you as well? I live in an apartment near school, and was absolutely shocked by how loud it had to be. I waited about 7 minutes, and seeing no end to the noise, cancelled it.

In contrast, the Audessey calibration on my Onkyo TX-SR876 was much quieter. Unfortunately, that one is back in a house where neighbors aren't going to be bothered.

So...question....how long does it take to run the full HK calibration?

Yeah it does get pretty loud. I closed the door and stepped out of the room while it ran. I don't think mine ran for 7 minutes maybe 3 minutes at the most. I turned Ezset off today and calibrated with my spl meter and my levels were really different, plus it sounds better.

Keep in mind that EzSet has 2 components to it. It does both EQ and speaker leveling. I find that the leveling on my H/K AVR-254 is pretty much dead on. However, I don't like the EQ that it applies so I turn the EQ off. EzSet calibrates my sub too low as well.

As you've discovered if you can do a manual calibration you are definitely better off doing that instead of using EzSet.

When I turned the Ezset off it erased all my settings I had to manually calibrate all the speakers.
