  • Damn but don't I feel all Star Trek and ****....

Sorry for the crappy thread title.... but not only has the formerly techno challenged quadman gone DSL, kicked crappy AOL and their dial up to the curb, but I've now officially succeded in setting up my first WAN connection. In fact, I'm posting this thread from the remote (wireless?) location.

Where is a smiley for patting myself on the back? Oh well, this one will have to do for now.... :woohoo: and the obligatory.... :woo: and just one more cause I'm in the mood.... this is :cool 3:

Hey, we don't even have an I-POD yet, so I'm afraid an I-Phone is a ways off for now. Geez, I don't know if I could give up my trusty little LG flip phone with no camera.... but then again, I used to think that living in a cave, peeing outdoors and a dial up were all the "tech" I needed. :no clue:

So we shall see my friend.

LOL the girls are already fighting over the wireless connection. They want DOD (Dear OLD Dad) off of his computer so they can fight each other on line in some game. :boom: Shoot, maybe this will let them duke things out in cyber space and be a little more civil to each other IRL.

Wow...now that he has no dial up..we are losing all of our ammo.

Welcome to the 20th century...now get an IPod and you'll be in the 21st =D

ah...all is right in the world again ...

But seriously, you'll probably be more addicted to the Internet than ever.

I can remember when I got broadband. It is pretty cool.

I can't wait to get a fiber line, but I don't expect it here in Tulsa for a while:crying:

Yeah I recall being lucky as I had a friend that worked at TW and I got on the beta test when they first started off on the cable high speed internet...actually I got it for my Dad - wow what a night and day difference from dial up.

I didn't know there were people still stuck on dial-up! Congrats for moving into the late 1990's with the DSL, Quadman! :D ....and into about 2003 with the wireless network! :D :D :D

Hey Quad... I hope you really didn't think the upgrade was gonna garner you any respect with this crowd. :biglaugh: I'll give you credit though, you damn near rode that dinosaur into extinction. :applause:

Naaa.... I wasn't expecting any. But hey.... since it's been so much nicer with the indoor plumbing, I figured what the heck, I might as well. Now if I could just learn this browser thing.... :dizzy: and quit closing out the entire browser instead of closing a single page :fryingpan: I might just find this faster speed a lot more fun.

John, if you are using IE8, when you have more than one tab open and click on the red X in the upper right corner, you should get a warning like the one below.

If you this warning is turned off, you can turn it on by going up to the IE toolbar and following...

Tools/Internet Options/"General" tab/"Tabs"/"Settings" and on the settings page putting a checkmark in the box in front of "Warn me when closing multiple tabs."

This warning, though a minor pain in the butt, has kept me from closing everthing when I only wanted to close one tab.

That's another cool thing about FF......you have the option to open the browser will all the previous pages. (Opera does this, too)

Thanks Jack.... I guess one of the places I'm getting confused, is all this "tabs" talk. For example, in my Google search preferrences, I have it set so that whenever I click on one of the displayed links, it opens the web site in a new "window ' (this OS is CALLED windows right? :no clue:) so that when I'm finished with it and "X" off of it.... it closes that web page but not Google. Then, when I'm done with Google, I "X" off of it and AOL was stil open and running. When I opened multiple pages, I could close them at my leasure without backing out of or shutting down the whole shebang.

So far in IE (yes, it's 8.0), I can't seem to figure out when and when not to "X" off of something. I find myself clicking on the little house (home page) icon thingie to get back to the home page (which seems to close everything else off) when I'm done with what I'm looking at before starting over. Maybe, like you say it's all in the "tabs" and learning how to manipulate them. But so far, all of these changes are a bit :dizzy: if you know what I mean. But heck, I'm still learning you dont need to blow on the light at night to make it go out. There's some new fangled thingie called a switch that does the same thing. But, the real facination is that swirrly water thing when you flush the dog bowl. :toilet:

See?.... damn-it.... out of habit, when I was done posting and showing Sarah the pics of Mike's hummers, muscle memory caused me to go up to the top right corner and click the red "X" button to close this web page. But, it shut everything down and I had to re-open IE. DAMN, that's frustrating.

I guess things could be worse though. I could still be listening to tweedle, tweedle, da, dede, shhhhhhhhh, beep - beep still trying to connect from fifteen minutes ago. :fryingpan:
