  • Purchase/Warranty Question - Canon Camcorder

Pretty sure I am going to finally pick up an HD camcorder, the Canon HF10.

TigerDirect is selling refurbs for $500 with a 3 months parts and labor warranty from Canon.

A solid-looking ebay seller has the refurb for $550, with a 4 year Mack USA warranty. With MS Bing deal I'd get $65 back, so I'm at $485. Just wondering about the Mack warranty. Quite a few negative comments on the net. But it still seems like a decent risk considering how short the Canon warranty would be from TigerDirect. I can extend that warranty for one year for $80, but I am not really interested in that.

    Thoughts? Experience with Mack warranties?

    Thanks.
As it turns out, I was never banned. I was wrong yet again. First Obama, now this. :)

Hmm, how about the models without the built in memory? A new HF200 can be had for $599 from a variety of places. You could probably find it cheaper than that. 16gb mem cards are ~$30. Just a thought.

A quick search of Mack does not instill much confidence.....

I don't know anything about the Mack warranty but, assuming the purchase from Tiger Direct (not my favorite OL retailer, but they have their fans) would be via credit card, why not ask your CC company what added warranty buying through them might provide? I know both my AmEx and Visa either double the standard warranty or provide a minimum of two years. Doesn't hurt to ask.

I don't really care about the built in memory, but I am seeing 10s for less than 100s for some reason. They are supposed to identical as far as performance goes. I've read some things that lead me to believe the 200 may be a slight step back, or sideways at least.

That is a good point about the CC extending basic warranty. Pretty sure I have that on a few cards, but I've never needed it so I forget about it. I share your thoughts on TigerDirect. They've done OK by me, but they make you jump through hoops at times.
