  • Last ditch effort - new PC shutdown problem

Worth a try since someone among us may be PC tech-type.

I get the following screen upon shutdown with a new XP Home SP3 machine:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

    KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

    Technical information:

    *** STOP: 0x0000007A (0xC05805F0,0xC00000A3,0xB00BEB6E,0x654FA860)

    *** usbhub.sys - Address B00BEB6E base at B00B2000, Datestamp 480254d0

I can try to help but you need to give some more information.

What are the details of the computer? What have you tried already? When and how often does the error happen? Is it something specific that causes the error or is it random?

Thanks! PC details are here: http://www.gigaparts.com/store.php?a...ku=sy0300-wvhp

I have only tried internet searches for blue screen during shutdown searches - to no avail. Posted on one Microsoft help forum - got not responses.

Always occurs during shutdown. At least 90% of the time.

As to cause - no clue, but suspicious of reference to usb as I have 2 external usb HDs connected.

Unplug all of your usb devices and try to shutdown again. Still happening?

Another thing to try is to download and install the chipset driver update for your motherboard from here: http://www.gigabyte.us/Support/Mothe...t=xp#anchor_os

If it really is a USB hub then it is most likely motherboard drivers. The case USBs will connect to the motherboard directly. Some times is the chipset drivers other times it is a separate set of drivers for the usb.

It's entirely possible they installed XP and left it at that without installing all the drivers or they installed the wrong drivers. In that case you'll need to track down all the drivers for all those parts and install them. Make sure you have drivers installed for everything by looking in your device manager (right click on my computer, then properities, then find device manager). You may want to install new drivers for everything just to be sure even if the devices seem to be working fine.

I may as well have taken my car to a mechanic - that blasted thing will not go blue this eveing. It is waiting for me to log off the internet and shut it down for the night. Then it will attack.
