  • Who pays for Pandora??

I listen to Pandora all the time, whether it's via the PS3, iPod touch, and even my Blackberry. That said, I'm getting sick of the ads, but I can deal with the ads if I have to. Who's paying for it and getting the upgraded bitrate vs. not paying and listening to the standard? I'm curious to tell I know it's only $36 bucks but I figured I'd ask before I tried.

I would like to but I am trying to find out if I can skip more than 6 songs / hour.
Is this possible with signining up?

I pay for it and listen through my Squeezebox 3, and feel it's worth it. My only complaint is that on some of the more obscure channels (e.g. - Chris Spedding) you end up getting the same playlist reshuffled.

I've tended to use Rhapsody more often, to seek out new artists based on "What are you listening to now?" threads, but still do enjoy Pandora from time to time and have discovered some good music through it.

I figure for the price of a few CD's I get personalized radio and discover new artists based on my tastes.

I pay and still have the limit on the # of songs you can skip, not sure if it is still 6/hr or higher. It's only been an issue once for me, so I never paid that much attention.

Just did a quick test and it is still 6 skips per hour even if you pay.

I have been a subscriber to Pandora for a while, and would echo what Jim C posted.

In part, I pay to support Pandora. The benefits that accompany it are a plus for me. I also use Rhapsody, which gets used by several people in our house. We also use the Rhapsody to go, to get the same selection to put on MP3 players.

Have enjoyed how Pandora gives you the random similarity songs, that you can then track down the artist. If you set up quite a few artist channels, you can usually stay busy listening. Have not checked if the number of artists that you can set up is different in free vs. subscribed.

I use Pandora via SB3 and love it. I set up stations by genre and so can play based on my mood or use the quick mix to play from my favorite genres. I don't have cable/satellite so $36 year for entertainment is easy for me to justify.

I pay for Pandora and love it! I use it primarily with my Sonos stuff, but will use it with the iPhone some, too. I also pay to support the company as much as anything....but I never used them before paying so the ads might have driven me crazy, too.....

I don't pay for Pandora and use it via my Squeezebox 3, Palm Pre and in my office via a PC. The only ads I ever get are on the pc and they are just ads on the webpage. I listen for hours at a time so am I just lucky? The only real advantage I see is that I get a better bitrate and get a standalone player so I don't have to use my browser.

As an alternative to Pandora check out Slacker (iphone/touch/web/and custom mobile device). It is basically Pandora but you can skip 6 songs/hour unless you pay the annual fee then it's unlimited. There are less commercials and the variety is great. I purchased one of their portable units off of woot.com for $40 and use it daily (canceled XM).

When I signed up you had to upgrade to be able to use it with SB3 and you had to authorize your player, how did you manage that?

I use free Pandora at work sometimes over the internet. I used to use it on my Squeeze Box but now it says I have to pay the $ to do so.

Well I just tried Pandora on my Squeezebox and it works. When I tried it before it wasn't too long after the switch to a pay service option so maybe they changed their policy since them.

When I first got my SB3 I signed up for the free 2 months or whatever and never upgraded. I stopped using it. that was like a year or 2 ago. I bought some outdoor speakers and was goofing around on the SB3 and I clicked on it and it worked......it was that easy.

When I first got into Sonos, Pandora was a pay service that came with a 30 day trial. A few months later they decided to let Sonos listeners listen for free. I don't pay for it but I would if they offered more incentive for Sonos users.
