  • Thunder Over Michigan Airshow 2009

I took about 500 pix at the Thunder Over Michigan Airshow yesterday using my Konica Minolta DSLR with a 75-300 AF lens. I haven't used that long lens in over a year, but I got a few great flying close-ups of the WW II fighters and the Blue Angels. While I didn't use the exact camera grip technique mentioned in another thread here, I think I was close without realizing it. And I shoot left-eyed...

All the pix are on my website.

    Al,

    EXCELLENT.

Those reminded me of the great time I had when I was at Boeing.

WOW! Looks like a terrific air show.

They had a F4U Corsair which is one of my favorite WWII planes. Of course, a P-51 Mustang was present. Nice to see some British planes. They even had a Hawker Hurricane. You mostly see the more popular Spitfire at air shows. And a Lancaster. WOW! I woulda spent the extra dough to go through that.

Also, it was good to see some of my Vietnam era faves - The B52 was the meanest, nastiest looking plane ever. And I spent a lot of time in the venerable C-130 (great airplane!), and the Huey helicopter. Loved them both.

      Thanks for posting the pics.

Thanks! I hope to make it up to the Selfridge AFB Airshow next month, too. That should be even more fighter jets, maybe Stealth a/c, etc. USAF Thunderbirds, too. I don't see them too often - much more common to see the Navy's Blue Angels.

May be you'll see the F-22 Raptor too.

Al, good stuff! I have zero confidence in being able to shoot at an airshow.

                    I wish I did.

I actually was accepted by Northrop's YF-23 Program Manager but got turned down by their Security Dept. due to not being a Caucasian.

This was being a Lead Engineer with a Top Secret clearance at Boeing in KS.

Great pics. I haven't been to an airshow in quite some time either. The last one was hosted by the Navy at Fisherman's Wharf in SF. Saw some crazy manuevers with some taildragger sponsored by Yahoo.

I miss flying....gotta get back into it someday:(

Haven't been to an airshow in a long time....went today!

                        The F-16's were fun!

The FA-18's (Blue Angels) are cool! Especially with 6 of them flying.

But it was the F-22 that got me to go....and it just simply KICKS ASS!!!

Love the first pic, possible to get a larger version for a desktop say 1080 sized?

If not I understand, this would be for private use only.

                          Tanks a lot! :tanks alot:

If you want to PM me an email address I'll send you one - it's a little under 400k - I don't think I can upload that here.

The F22 flew for a while with a P38 which is one of my favorites from WWII. The P38 is in front and the perspective makes them appear similar in size. The F22 actually is much larger than the P38.
