  • IR repeater?

Does anyone know if ther is a cheap way to get an IR signal behind a solid door?

From what I can tell on Amazon and Parts Express, I can go with a $65-70 repeater or a $150 Harmony 890. I thought I would check the collected wisdom here to see if there were any other options.

I use these - http://www.amazon.com/X10-POWERMID-C.../dp/B00023KG40 (note, you can find them cheaper on Ebay)

I have 2 transmitters - one in the front of the theater, the other in the master bedroom 30' or so away. The receiver sits in front of my A/V rack in the back of the theater. This setup has worked flawlessly for me.

I used an older version of this to control components behind movie screen.

I got an 890 refurb from amazon? for 130 shipped. It works good man, and its easy. I see a refurb on amazon for $125 right now... it'll work good.

I only see the 890 for $165 at Amazon. It is a great remote if you are willing to spend the money.

I use the X-10 powermid.... think I paid $20. It works. You can find it somewhere on their wacked out website for $20. I say this because I remember seeing it priced at multiple price points as I scrolled down the page.

It was at $99 last week, but up to $165 as of yesterday. Maybe it will come back down.

I have the 890, so I know it's a great remote - this is for my parents, who already have an 880. It seems a waste to get rid of a perfectly good 880 just because they want to move their equipment inside a cabinet. But then again, maybe if they sold the used one on Ebay the price to upgrade wouldn't be that bad.

The Powermid solution sounds appelaing as well.

I recommeded this a while back on the AV123 forum. A member there purchased and had great success with it:

The main unit itself is $33, add $12 for the receiver eye, and then $4 for a single transmission cable or $7 for a dual. You can probably ask if they will do a package price.
