  • Enuf with the #@&%ing rain already

It's been raining in Jersey the whole month. No sun, no golf and worst of all, no Avatar Hotties in skimpy attire lounging by our pool.

My Father's Day present each year is to be able to watch the US Open Final Round in it's entirety without any henpecking from Mrs. Putz. Well that's probably going to happen around Tuesday the way things are going around here.

With Craig's OK, maybe we can start a Monsoon Hotties thread. Winner gets a pair of TCA galoshes. Here are my submissions:

Boy somebody really wants those Galoshes. Wasn't my intent to start a nekkid girl thread. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I think we should limit our cheesecake to the Avatar thread since no warnings in this one.

Anyway at this point, I'd gladly trade some Double D's for some Vitamin C.

I'm with you - it just WON'T. STOP. RAINING!!!!
Came home last night and was wondering why the neighborhood kids were all dancing around in my driveway and not making way for me to park. Once they moved and I got out of the car I'm thinking what the heck is so interesting that they are all playing in my yard (usually they just play ball in the front yard, not the side)? Oh. That. Wow. A freakin' tree fell on my house. While I'm standing there staring at that people walking down the other side of the street notice and loudly exclaim "Dayummm, a tree fell on that house!".
Still waiting for the city to come clear it out. Hope they can do it without busting any windows.
                Dayummmm!

Oh yeah, that ship sailed. Definitely going to need roof work. Water through the kitchen ceiling (it rained HARD), paint peeling, probably have to toss all the attic insulation . . . at least nobody was hurt.

Sorry about the tree. In NJ we would have to call a Tree Surgeon and have them remove it. You should get a Tarp on the roof ASAP to keep out the water and squirrels.

We've had 2 storms already today and more coming tonite. I may be poaching my Filet Mignons tonite if it doesn't let up.

I'm lucky, in more ways than one. I've got everything insured with State Farm and they've always been stand-up so I'll be surprised if I have any trouble on this one. Right now I'm just disappointed in the City not having sent out a Streets & San crew yet, normally they are much quicker. With the budget crisis the Mayor has been kicking all of those guys around so I don't know whether that has any role; there's no power lines down so it's not super-critical from a big-picture standpoint but I'm worried I won't be able to keep shooing the kids away and if something falls in the interim somebody could be hurt. Behind my house, on the other side of the alley, is a soft-surface children's playlot and beyond that is the "L" station - so there's a lot of foot traffic that would normally be passing down my sidewalk. As we know, not every adult always makes the smart choice and not every child is accompanied by an adult to help them with their choices. I just want this cleared soon so the risk to people is taken out and then I can get to work on the repairs. There's no way anybody can/should be on that roof until the tree debris is cleared out.

I have a love/hate relationship with these trees. On the one hand it's great I live in this old neighborhood in the heart of Chicago with all of these tall trees and we were spared the Asian Longhorn beetle threat. On the other hand I can't keep a car clean between the tree sap and the birds that crap *minutes* after I park my car with a poop that seems laced with "Alien vs. Predator" variety acid. :) Add in the helicopter seed pods that fall and try to grow into everything - or clog my gutters - and it's not too hard to see why Mr. T went on a tree rampage up in his north 'burban estate.

My apologies as this is off-topic (but water related) and this is as good a thread as any to post it...

Our neighbors just returned from a one week trip, and sometime early in that week, a fitting on the supply hose to an upstairs toilet cracked/failed. THOUSANDS of gallons of water made its way from the 2nd floor, down to the first floor, and into the basement. Fortunately it's only "stuff" - but they lost a LOT of it. And of course much of it was the irreplaceable family heirlooms, pictures, etc. And they'll be lucky if they can move back into the house in 3-4 months.

Check the supply hoses for your sinks & toilets - metal fittings at both ends plus reinforced hose in between (fiberglass or metal) would have prevented this and they're not much more expensive. Think about turning off the water or having someone check your house every day when you're away.

AllState is treating them VERY well so far, and ServiceMaster was amazing as far as removing water, and damaged flooring, walls, etc.

Good luck, Karl, on getting everything back to normal.
