VGA is analog, HDMI is digital so you're going to need more than a simple adapter. There are converter boxes, (http://www.vgatohdmi.net/ for example), but the cost may not be worth it.
If you're attempting to run the output from a PC to the TV, a better solution may be to buy a video card with HDMI out - there are some in the $30 - $40 range.
AFAIK there aren't many good solutions for VGA to HDMI....the only thing I can think of is VGA --> DVI --> HDMI.
I have to ask, though, what's the purpose for this? Most TVs with an HDMI input also have a VGA input, allowing you to connect your computer directly to the TV - is this not the case for you?

Yeah, they have been putting VGA inputs on TVs for quite some time now. Even the cheapo HDMI TVs have a VGA input.

I too thought that most TVs would have a VGA input. I asked this question for a friend who claimed his 26in Sony LCD didn't. I'll have to ask him for a model number.
I also suggested a new video card or the VGA to DVI to HDMI route, but I wondered if there might be any other solutions.
