I think it is an incredible piece of a machinery. It has some quirks but it is freaking awesome.
So you got one? if so tell us more please? you going to be at the GTG on sunday?
about 2 months ago I was looking real hard at the Palm Treo Pro, but then heard about the Pro, figured I would wait. I literaly had my cell phone in 50+ pieces yesterday on the kitchen table, hinge is so loose it cant tell if its open or closed, hangs up on calls just by picking the phone up off the table.
I really dont need the data plan, but want the Wi-Fi

Actually I won't be able to attend the GTG this weekend, I want to but my schedule just won't permit it. This freaking summer has been far far far to busy.
Any way. The WEBos is incredible. It is very fluid, very user friendly...it does have a couple of drawbacks, which I am sure will be fixed in updates. And it is only little things like can't set a different ringer for messaging and phone calls. But you can set individual ringers for every contact. Small little setting things like that are missing but overall it is fluid and is incredibly easy to setup.
Of course the app store for now is limited but a few keep getting added everyday.
THe whole synergy part of the phone is amazing. It combines all your contacts and calendars, this is awesome, I have everything from my outlook, facebook and gmail accounts all together. Just slide the phone open and start typing a name and it shows up with all their info. Simple to use.
The phone itself is very nice, it does have some wiggle with the slide out keyboard but nothing I am concerned about. The touchscreen is far superior to the Iphone in my opinion. I have used several friends Iphones and always had trouble getting the phone to recognize exactly where I touched the screen. With the Pre I am dead on every time.
I have to say the gestures are so intuitive that you pick them up almost instantly, I don't understand why some of the reviews say they are not intuitive and take some getting used to. I found them to be almost done by instinct.
The keyboard is great for me. I have a Blackberry Curve from my work and I have a difficult time typing on it as the keys don't have much grip and very little gap between them. With the Pre the keys have some kind of rubberized coating on them and while they are smaller they have a gap between keys which makes it easier to type without looking and hitting multiple keys at once.
The phone overall is awesome. The screen is great, the WEBos if fast and very easy to use, the synergy is great, setup is easy, phone sounds great.
The battery is not awesome by any stretch of the imagination. Software updates should help, turning off unnecessary items such as Bluetooth, etc.
I saw some write-ups on it, all praised it highly.
I think the only real negative was battery life....
I haven't looked further into it yet, but what network(s) does it work on?
sprint only
one of the other cariers mentioned having it in 6months and the ceo of spring said not a chance, they wont say how long their exclusivity is but said its longer than 6months.

Wow, good deal for Sprint. I thought they needed something like this else they could go belly-up....
What if the Hokey-Pokey really IS what it's all about?!
I'm glad to see some positive remarks about this. I'm an iphone user, and love it mostly. I'm ready for a performance boost, but will not be getting the new one. I feel it's not enough of an improvement to justify at the time.
But hopefully the Pre will continue to impress and improve. It will stimulate competition which should make both products better.
Never Argue With An idiot. They'll Lower You To Their Level And Then Beat You With Experience!

I was not willing to leave Sprint for At&t... I have been with sprint for 9 years and that has its perks....
So I had to wait and envy the iphone people....well I still think that the actual handset is probably a little nicer on the iphone...but I am a fan of a real keyboard...so it is a little bit of a wash. The software is killer and I love the thing.
I guarantee there second gen stuff is going to be awesome.
I also forgot to say that the free Turn by Turn GPS navigation works incredibly well also....and free.
Its free? what plan do you have? I am still on just the 450min talk but I got 500 free txt msgs a month, and then throw in my 23% discount.... its hard to step up to the data plans...... I just found the palm treo pro from someone on CL for 125.00, since it has wifi and everyplace I go these days have wifi I am thinking of just picking it up and using it for a while ( not under contract)

Only software issue I have had is with Charters Email system....It fails on sending emails because Charter has an authentication method that stops spammers but also stops me from sending my email through the palm....SO I just created a Dummy Gmail account and forward my emails to that account and then when i send from the palm i have that gmail account to set the reply to my charter account. Easy workaround
I thought engadget was reporting Sprint only had it for 6 months. I am hoping Verizon can pull either the iPhone 3Gs or the Pre within the next year so I can get a new gadget...I mean phone.
