  • Photo of glowing amplifier tubes?

Can someone point me to the thread I believe I saw here that was a great macro close-up of glowing analog amplifier tubes with a black background?

I had the shot and can't find it now - it makes a great Windows wallpaper.

I posted this one a while back:

As it turns out, I was never banned. I was wrong yet again. First Obama, now this. :)

I don't know if that was it or not, but it gives me an idea. We should have a thread for great audio wallpapers. An "audio porn" thread without the nsfw stuff. I'd love to see some more macros of tube amps getting their glow on.

This is torture. I think I know the one you are talking about, but I cannot recall who posted it. And it may have been posted on the av123 forum. Best I recall, it was a dark photo, with a golden glow that was given off by the tubes.

If someone would send me their tube amp, I would gladly take some macro shots of it. But I couldn't guarantee that the amp would get shipped back....J/K!

If I had one I might take you up on that - except for the not getting it back part... :fryingpan:

Ding, ding, ding....that's it....and it proves to me that I am not totally senile. I thought I recalled your posting a shot like that, but a search on this forum produced no hits, so I gave up searching.

Great shot...and I still have a good mind....I'm feelin' better already.

Just send me your macro lens (and some instructions...) :neener:

That is a sweet shot Jeremy.

Great picture Jeremy, what type of camera/lens/settings did you use to achieve that awesome shot?

I took that with the Nikon D40 I had at the time... stock 18-55 lens, tripod, and the remote IR shutter. I just darkened the room completely except for the SP3, set the cam for timed shutter mode of (I think) 30 seconds. I tried some shots with quicker shutter times but the long exposure worked best.

droht, I hope you don't mind my tweaking your shot a tad. I am trying to evaluate some software and want to use your shot to test how well it will perform. But I want to compare its results with what I did in PS CS4, which is below. After looking at the PS result, I'm not sure that I need to buy the other software. This turned out pretty good.
