  • Electric Power Conditioner

Hey guys. Do any of you use a "power conditioner" for your electronics? If so, what do you use and what would you recommend for me? I currently have in my audio stack:

Adcom GFA 555 power amp for front 2 speakers
    Sony bd350 blu-ray player
    Marantz 5003 av receiver
    Dishnetwork HD sat receiver

On other circuits I have a pair of mfw-15's, a panasonic 900 projector and other various electrical items like lamps, a fan, popcorn machine, etc. I assume these wouldnt necessarily benefit from power conditioning, with possible exception of my pair of Major Fricking Woofages.

For your stack I would recommend APC AV H15 1500VA, I picked up a silver one new for $99 Shipped. It handles 12 AMPs.

Some have had problems with subs and ACTIVE power conditioners that do voltage regulation (AVR), doesn't break anything but may blow a fuse in a powered sub.

I have a Monster HTS5100 MKII in my living room, an APC H15 in my office and a OneAC filter on my computer.

Yes, I think they help. blacker blacks, for video you get a crisper picture.

Probably the H15 is the best buy for the money. I actually have a second still BNIB not sure what I'm going to do with it.

I have an Exact Power 15 amp power conditioner and an Exact Power balanced transformer that I run everything through, except the two subs that are running "naked." I have not found any constriction on the amp even though there is a voltage regulator ahead of it, but the subs are 2500watts each and I did not trust the same would be true for them.

My system is dead quiet, which I attribute partly to the Exact Power gear and partly to the XLR interconnects. I did not get a huge improvement when I added the power conditioner, but then my house is only 20 years old. I do like having a clean power base to build on.

The only downside to the Exact Power gear that I have experienced is that it is expensive. I wanted something without MOVs and something that would last through many iterations of upgrades, so I bit the bullet. HAL has done some testing that IIRC may suggest other brands are superior, but mine works for me.

I have an APC H15 that I've been really happy with so far. I picked up a silver one for just over $100 bones and painted it black with a satin black can of Krylon. Looks just like it came from the factory that way.

That sounds cool Goochy. I wanted a black one but seems they run in the 300+ range. Might consider doing just what you did.

I never noticed it to be honest. I painted it one evening after I got home and it set up in my garage over the next 24 hours. I re-assembled it the next evening and never smelled it even once.

I applied two coats of paint to this one. Hindsight 20/20 it's a good thing I used "Satin Black" because I'd need to use it on the top of the MFW-15 I bought "used" on this very site because UPS had their way with my sub. :( Thankfully, I'm finding out that I have a pretty even hand with a spray paint can and the MFW looks just like it came from the factory.

                        Panamax

I use a Panamax 5600 unit with my living room gear, and I moved my 5500 unit to the bedroom gear. I have my Emo Big Dogs, Tosh RPTV, 3 dvd players and P-1A/P-3A all hooked up to it.
